AFK kiss of death solution

Let someone else pick up where your AFK left off.

Just that. If someone AFKs for more than a set period of time (say three minutes) then let someone ELSE load their game and continue with their champ. In game mode select, we'd need the option to "AFK Fill".

This would help AFKs be less of the kiss of death that they are now.

The player subbing in for the leaver could be of slightly higher ELO to compensate for his champ being dead in the water for 3 minutes, or get some kind of in game gold bonus.

The sub would still be screwed 9 times out of 10, since his predecessor was probably a toxic feeder, and his team will still lose, so he could get an IP bonus or loot.

The AFK player would still get his punishment

so who would want to sub in for the AFK?

So now not only are you potentially shoved into a role blindly that you might have no idea how to play, but also champ is preselected for you that you could be using for the first time. #greatsolution

O god no

Never

I never want to be forced to fill in a 20 minute game with the enemy team at our nexus

Even if i got lp for losing it it'd never be worth the toxicity I walk into.

I'd afk myself if i got afk filled...

The only way this'd be salvagable if it had the same premise as the early surrender mechanic if someone fails to load in within 3 min, no longer. But even then, to get a grasp in a game that's designed to snowball, would be very difficult to do as someone just hopping in. Especially since you'd have to start off with nothing, and at best accumulated gold that would be surmounted by the duration of the game that has since past up unto the point of you joining. But I'm also against the idea, either way.

i don't think many people would opt-in to backfilling. i don't think players would like being forced to backfill. i think continuing to harshly punish and discourage leavers is the better solution.
