Has anyone noticed the teleport nerf causing people to stop teleporting altogether?

grug··59 votes·4,566 views

I am playing in the range of bronze - low gold and I notice that a lot of top laners don't even use their teleport or at max 2-3 times in 40-50 minute games, I distinctly remember people teleporting more frequently before the nerf. Surely a 2 second nerf can't stop people from teleporting altogether?

UPDATE: oh my g0d, just looked up the teleport nerf and it is actually a 1 second increase instead of 2, this further blows my mind that increasing tp duration from 3.5 to 4.5 has caused usage to drop exponentially.

at this point TP is only useful to get back into lane..TP ganks are pretty much dead. I dunno why they nerfed it so hard, its not like every lane took tp like they do with flash.

NineTailedMystic20 votes

They kind of were. At the time quite a few meta mid laners took TP for that express purpose.

Velzard of Koz9 votes

I used it for getting back to lane quicker If I knew I wouldn't use Ignite from distance but would need more farm :( Now I'm moving to Barierr anyway

Abyssphere6 votes

They nerfed it so hard because it impacted how you play the game a lot. Everyone taking Flash doesn't make certain champions or strategies unviable, everyone taking Teleport could do that. Bot laners felt like they had no control over their lane because top and mid would arrive at every fight, and early aggression (which should be rewarded) was extremely easy to punish. Flash doesn't do stuff like that.

Brain Errör 4041 votes

I still feel like I have no control over my lane as a bot laner with all the ganks and 4 mans that happens down there. I now know why I like top lane. Now if only the jgler left me and my top laner alone so we could either farm in peace or one of us continually gets rekt by the other person... I miss those days.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Nope, you just got to be more clever about when you use TP and your team needs to help you set it up.

it was pretty prevalent in competitive. almost all mids took tp. now its a matter of choice. do you want the playmaking potential, or do you want the combat summoner. more and more often mid laners are taking combat summoners or mobility summoners. which is how it honestly should be.

if everyone is taking TP that means its op. TP on top laners will be meta regardless of how hard they nerf it because the threat of a legitimate split push is necessary. top laners are also on an island compared to the rest of the map.

Chad Te Employee1 votes

a tp was a get out of jail free card for bot because once they were caught out top could easily tp in and save the day.

TotalJerk1 votes

People were complaining about the "parties" in bot lane. If you even thought about being aggressive your lane would get flooded with TPs and global ults. IMO it wouldn't have been a problem had it not been for the fact that TP ganks in mid are basically impossible. Mid in general is just too hard to gank and top doesn't give much reward outside of the kill itself, so of course people are gonna focus on bot.

Only Play Darius27 votes

First they removed teleport's CD reduction on turrets because they wanted to "cut power without nerfing what makes TP exciting" even though teleport roams were the actual problem. Then they ended up nerfing the channel time to weaken teleport roams. So now Teleport isn't really good at getting back to lane more than once AND isn't reliable for roaming. Ghost is probably better at this point

Spoofghoul8 votes

yes ghost is better

it has a shorter cooldown too and also has good incombat uses aswell as usage for chasing/escaping/ganking

tp just doesn't cut it

your better of taking smite at this point 60 seconds or less combat summoner or wards is pretty sweet too

or just take ignite i guess

I've toyed with the idea of taking Smite as a combat spell to get access to CinderHulk or Bloodrazor, would especially help me with champions that I have trouble CSing with.

TotalJerk1 votes

The cinderhulk thing with red smite was actually OP as hell for a period in season 5

Yeah well, Tp just got really hard to use in lane now. Using it to tp back to lane is unchanged, but for those TP ganks, of man... You have to be reallllyyy sure about your moves cuz its fucking telegraphed at this point. The enemies have all the time in the world to turn around and run, or just flat out kill your teammates as they intended just to turn it into a 2v1 when you finally hit ground.

statelesskiller8 votes

before the nerf laners had the right amount of time to react and move against tp ganks. mid lane especially could just walk away from a tp and be perfectly fine because o the lane size unless they where getting cced. now with a aditional second. unless you can force a laner to commit for a additional second there is no point in tping.

im a GP main and i play alot of nasus as well i rarely used tp to get kill ganks but i did if i saw three low health targets with no where to go for easy 900 gold. but the thing is is that now i dont care. the risk increased to far for me to lose top lane farm or even tower. it takes so long to get there and now its more likely now that your going to be useless when you do . . . just show up and be like "im top lane. im helping"

i would much rather stay top and keep the pressure on top lane and get more and more farm

III BAKURYU III 7 votes

Indeed 1 sec delay - feels like 10 secs to me. I'm on the point of not taking TP anymore. You die to a gank at top and the enemy top and jungle are pushing on your tower as your about to spawn and use your TP to get back to lane.

A. Death timers don't help TP for lane if enemy laner and jungler are destroying your lane tower before 5 mins it's about 13-15 secs your dead and extra 5-6 secs to just TP 20-2X Secs for extra free dmg on tower.

B. No one wards anymore so you can TP. Green wards are gone. Trinkets last for 20-30 secs. Can't TP to those blue trinkets which sucks because it's the only ward that I ever see late game. Pinks no one seems to buy them more than once, people seem to just buy 1 because of the fear of getting yelled at by teammates but never buying another once it gets taken out.

So as a Top I have to walk mid/bot and put down my trinket/Pink then walk back TOP and not use TP or it defeats the purpose just so I can have something to TP to because like I said it feels like I'm the only one warding. Most cases I out ward the SUpports on each team combined.

Axe2Handle6 votes

If you teleport you are pretty much clean up crew after after an ally has already died lol

Athenes Lulu6 votes

Meanwhile 4/5-man botlane clown fiestas are still fairly common.

I will say it's not to the point of 24/7 anymore, but it's still a thing.

Catastrop5 votes

It's still decent on some people and situations. Like stopping a split or maybe getting there for a drag. Otherwise, you'll rarely ever see an actual TP gank.

LU Vanilla Rice 3 votes

In terms of teleporting bot, the extra second makes a huge difference as to whether they will get there in time to kill both enemy bot laners, or whether the tp will be wasted.

Limrick3 votes

Overnerfed by far, giving the vision and longer channel makes tp ganks basically impossible, so why even bother taking it at all?, I just run Ignite/Exhaust top lane, and hope to snowball myself.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

yeah if they'd just remove the vision if the TP bush is unwarded. It's stupid. Same as you can see illaoi tentacles but playing against GP on toplane? You'll never see his barrels.

1011001110003 votes

Not to mention Kalista can't use her ult + tp combo anymore because of this.

It's a small thing, but it's a thing.

KoKoboto3 votes

Teleport plays are only good on people who can make "long distance" engages. I find it useful on Sion, Zac, Kled, Malphite, just champions that can near guarantee that teleport won't be wasted when you get there. The nerf to the channel times means that a lot of champions won't be able to make use of the teleport because the enemy will already be outta there or your team is all dead/got all the kills.

YoureSquiddingMe3 votes

Yeah, Most of the time I've tried to use teleport the fight is over before I even get there.

dunkeroni3 votes

Yeah, I mostly just see it used for lane presence or setups for dragon. Almost nobody can use it to teleport into a fight to get kills now.

Baron Perenolde2 votes

Good riddance. Teleport meta was garbage. [slayer-jinx-catface]

Cookimonster3162 votes

Personally I like TP becoming less used because as someone who mainly plays adc and jungle it was so annoying when the enemy top and mid laner would teleport to bot because you went just a little aggresive. Now people have to be smarter with it which is much better

GULAG 4 U1 votes

People in bronze take ignite over it because they don't know how to TP bot and do shit like that.

It's easier to get kills and allows you to fuck up mondo, vlad and aatrox. (Etc).

FreakingRadical1 votes

Yeah I used to carry teleport but "channeling"( i.e. waving a huge flag of "hay guys can i come ovar") ruins the whole element of surprise unless you can do it off-screen of the enemy, and adding a second puts like waaay more distance further that your enemy can get/more time to set you up.

For example if I'm ryze-ing around and I see a minion light up I hit their neighbor with my E, hit another E after the port lighting up the champ and nearby creeps, WQEQ and they already need to port for health. And I don't even have to hit the champion, just a nearby minion. Like waaaat.

I just carry flash and ignite. Ignite is really hilarious too.

Usernamehere12351 votes

As a top lane main, after the nerf, my TP plays have been very poor, and my actual use of TP has gone down dramatically. I actually had a little intervention with myself because I was 30 minutes in the game and just realized I hadn't used my Teleport once. The only time I do use it is for drake teamfights and for getting back to lane, but because I split push and win lane really hard by playing cancerous champs like Irelia and Fiora, Tp usage has gone down a lot. And in terms of early game TP plays, forget about it. It takes so long that ANY team who's not braindead can disengage with time to spare. Even before the nerfs, it took a bit of skill and luck in order to make an advantageous play. Now it's just impossible.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

People are big babies. They need to work harder to make TP work so they would rather drop it entirely.

A Basic Island1 votes

one way to look at it is a single second increase

another way to look at it is it's a 2/7 increase in the time taken, which is significant

ALOT can happen in that extra one second

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

A second in a game like LoL is an eternity. Just look at ashes ultimate. When you once got hit full duration (3,0 secs) it feels like you froze for 10 mins

Requiemsfire1 votes

It's not longer that useful when it comes to ganking botlane. However teleport is still probably the best summoner spell you can take toplane due to being able to have a kind of map presence that you wouldn't have with ignite or ghost. You can stay toplane and if your team for whatever reason contest or fight a 4v4 you can tp in and force a 4v5 to claim something like an objective or a tower. I honestly think this nerf was well merited.

55976771DEL21 votes

Tp ganks still works it's not dead. I get tp back if i'm set back, but if i'm ahead then i save tp because most of the times i can save my adc and support.

JDB8eoX8x01 votes

Considering what TP is supposed to do and how some people used it, that nerf was justified. It's meant to be used for a quicker escape or return to the lane. Being able to TP gank a lane is nice and all, but to be honest there is NOTHING you can do if you play offensively and their support warded your bush. You probably won't even notice that they did sometimes and then you realize you get TP ganked. Back to turret is impossible at your early speed without boots and going over the river is impossible when their botlane suddenly gets really aggressive and disables you from fleeing.

Not saying it's unfair, but an extra second for people to flee was absolutely necessary imo. Some top laners are outrageous in terms of usefulness of speed, so you barely have a chance to survive if a Garen or Irelia jumps on your lane and turns you into pudding.

Considering what TP is supposed to do and how some people used it, that nerf was justified. It's meant to be used for a quicker escape or return to the lane.

You say that. I think it shouldn't be an easy free farm tool for tanks to auto survive lane so they get their lategame for sure. It should be a strategic option so that the toplaner has actually some map presence rather than sitting on the toplane island until minute 25. Anyways, the nerf is still quite okay because now I can go for Ignite to totally dumpster the toplane jungle and 1v2 like it was in season 3 rather than caring about the helpless brats that call themselves botlane. Toplane got easier and less demanding but I'm fine with that. Season 3 was awesome.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

I kinda understand your reasoning but lets say your toplaner just freezed the lane and jungler was constantly showing up top it was a nice gimmick to port to an overaggressive botlane to punish them and get some free bonus gold. It did make the game more interesting btw and fast paced without making the game or champs snowbally. Now we are back to that toplane is an island and i despise playing toplane. BUT toplane is the one lane i can take full control of the game thanks to tankiness, cc and dmg.

Gregor Gysi1 votes

I completely agree with you! TP is certainly more interesting from a strategic standpoint and certainly make s toplane a much healthier place (and it also means that you can't just permafreeze because that gives your opponent the opportunity to roam and TP back or just TP gank.

But it doesn't affect me personally as I prefer to play with Ignite and full ham in the enemy jungle so the nerf benefits myplaystyle.

Serika Zero1 votes

Personally I feel less and less inclined to take TP as a top laner (I would definetly not take it if I could play my pre-rework fiora, but that's another story). The thing is, if the enemy has a combat summoner and somehow manages to freeze the lane in a good position for them. Often you NEED, REQUIRE AND HAVE TO get help from a team mate (jungler or mid laner usually) to break that freeze and push wave into turret to have lane reset itself, preferably pushing towards you.

But the majority of them got a jessus complex of "I don't have to win your lane for you". TP is a team summoner more often than not (especially in late game). But, due to how many times your team is composed out of assholes, TP will be a detriment in most games as a top laner. So, a combat effective summoner spell (ignite, exaust, even ghost or heal) can win you the lane or help you stay close to your enemy without the NEED of that retarded jungler that instead of spending 20s top to push a wave would rather wait for his own camp to spawn. Coz "win lane yourself, I'm jungling".

That being said, I often can outplay a combat summoner top laner, and have control over the wave. That with a quick back + tp can help me stay ok in lane. But if my enemy is mostly point and click (ie: pantheon, annie) and with a combat spell. Then I'm kind of fucked if they get a good freeze.

DeathBurst1 votes

Well, consider that a .25 s knock-up is considered a pretty big CC. Now, get back to TP, and ask yourself what arriving 1 s later into a fight might do.

Tychusfindlay9191 votes

I exclusively run ghost and flash for better dueling and teamfights throughout the game instead of the "map presence" that I don't miss with the nerfed TP.

FighterA2361 votes

Lets see the possible usage of nerfed teleport : Very small chance of a global flank due to the 4.5 channel to the teleport. Teleport to get back to lane : 4.5 Sec channel, causing the guy who tp'ed to lose minions under turret. So teleport is useless also in laning phase. Only usage : 50 min games who you just need to heal in the base and come super fast. Nice job riot. Facepalm

BLACK REALM GOD1 votes

i use ghost and swiftness boots

i refuse to touch mobility boots since they removed alacrity

EDIT* also i actually appreciate the extended teleport channel. it allows me to cancel if i need to. i use teleport on weird builds and champs.

EDIT2* i forgot to mention that i dont use teleport anymore because it was a faster version of a B for me if i was about to get cornered. i'd hide in a bush and teleport to a turret or home base.

XDDD1 votes

Yeah I gave up on it. The delayed channel usually means you're TPing into heavy CC anyway and Riot felt like buffing supports by nerfing top laners running TP (you can go to the patch and pull that quote from Scarizard). It's just like if they were to buff classes other ADCs by nerfing heal since it's a staple.

Widder881 votes

I still use it on every top laner for going back to lane and split push potential in the late game.
