Just another post whining about champion balance
As someone who has been playing since Season 1 I feel like riot has left their oldest champions to sit as relics. Some of these champions are insanely powerful relics that are still used today to deadly effect and are imbued with more powerful properties than their modern alternatives. But still others are dusty old muskets in the day of machine guns and laser guided rocket launchers. I propose that riot should scrap the projects they have currently brewing and take a look at their founding members. Back when it was a simpler time, either for better or for worse, their champion designs worked in the meta of yore. However, these days, skillsets that used to be interesting and fun are imposing on other champions who were made with a different mindset in a different paradigm. Riot should retroactively look at their champions and think to themselves, "Would I create this champion in this age, knowing what I know now?" It is a simple thing in practice and yet doesn't seem to be something implemented as of yet.
I allude to much but haven't yet given examples. So here are some of the champions that have brought me to this conclusion. These champions are either too egregiously powerful for the current state of the game, or conversely, too egregiously weak. Powerful Founding Champions for special consideration in my mind:
Annie - Insanely safe farming with a mechanic that replenishes her mana in its entirety if she kills a minion with it and reducing its cooldown to around two seconds. I cannot think of another move that allows a champion to so efficiently last hit without a drawback of any kind. In addition to its 2 passive abilities her q has an impressive .8 ap scaling, decent base damage, and gets her one step closer to her passive procing. She literally cannot miss a cs. You would have to be actively negligent to miss any last hit with annie. This transitions into an insanely bursty mid game wherein at the moment you are level 6, your opponent can be killed instantly. The safest laning phase i can think of in the game, with one of the highest burst potentials, makes this champion an oppressive lane opponent with next to no counterplay.
If this post gets any feedback i will continue, but for now I wont type an essay just for it to get buried :P
Ancient Champions in a bad spot:
Anivia - Slow and predictable linear skillshot that is her only initiation and most of her damage potential. Glitchy wall mechanic that has just as much stymie your own team as the enemy team. Targeted nuke that is only useful whatsoever if you can hit one of anivias other moves first. And an ultimate that is underwhelming at best and guzzles mana like no other. It is a wonder riot even proffered this kit in the first place. Let alone to have it fester for 3+ years without giving it any love. This champion is the definition of an immobile mage gone terribly awry. There is almost no redeeming quality for this champion.
If you guys agree with me. Or dont agree. Tell me why ^_^. Im not one to do math or in depth comparisons. I just mostly offer how i feel about the game and champions in it.
