Odd Idea: limit access to some times to specific roles by specifying... your role!
There's been a lot of discussion lately about how to balance the jungle in regards to cinderhulk, not just limited to jungle champs but of it being played in lanes (Shyvana tp/smite top). I love the diversity that's now being seen in the jungle and welcome it, although some changes do still need to be made. What is a problem though is the viability of cinderhulk on non-jungles. Traditionally, this overpowering would be solved by simply nerving the item in question, but that only brings us back to the starting point. Additionally, this problem of items meant for one role and becoming OP in another isn't limited to jungles, but occurs in all lanes (honestly, I'm especially thinking of support items).
The problem is that Riot can't give nice things (gold efficient items) to roles with traditionally less gold income because of coarse everyone's going to build it! It's a good item! But we all want these roles to be and feel relevant when we play them right? So how can we give needed powerful items to some roles (jungle, support) without them being used in all? Make summoners specify which role they will be playing before picks/bans and limit the shop based off of your chosen role! I got the idea from only being able to build Hunter's Machete if you have smite. There should be a 20 second period before pics/bans in which you call out the role you want in chat and lock it in from a choice of 5 above, and only then would picks/bans occur. This system would still have the same flaw of auto locks but that's not what it's aiming to solve. By doing this Riot could give meaningful items to roles they're intended for that push different champions and positions into viability without affecting the power of other lanes. Would love to hear what you guys think of this, still a new idea I just had.
P.S. I'm horrible at League of Legends and still fairly new c:
