How to change FILL so we all dont become SUPPORT mains
I like playing a variety of roles in League, so naturally fill seems an attractive selection. We all know that "fill" does not mean variety, it's just support misspelled. It feels really clunky that you cant pick 3 roles or 4 and avoid just one. I know that for a long time I as a player avoided jungle because it was so different from laning and I needed to learn basic mechanics first. Below is my solution to Dynamic Queue that would put all this flexibility back in the game. Feel free to critique.
My suggestion: When clicking one of the two role selectors in the game lobby there is a circular menu that expands. Add a third of these expanding menus (between and below the existing 2) that expands to offer these selections:
- Select
- Avoid
- Reduce
- Random
- Fill Lastly replace the "fill" slot in current menus with a blank option for the appropriate menus (2,3). This would require some tweaking of the match making algorithm (adding some options) but would allow for all the variations in function that are mentioned in this thread. 'Select' would be the current method. 'Avoid' would allow you to select 1 or 2 roles for which you want to chance to receive (fill rest). 'Reduce' would lower the chance but not completely restrict you from receiving the 1 or 2 selected roles, intending the player to occasionally play them but favor other roles in queue. 'Random' would randomly choose 2 roles for the player to be considered for via the 'Select' (current) method, and which the player wouldn't know till queue popped (hidden optional). 'Fill' would act with live functionality. If anything is missing from this proposal, then post away. The way I see it this would add a lot of personalization in queue without lengthening time and give a freedom of choice that brings the user closer to the flexible old queue while keeping the best parts of dynamic. It might be a lot of work to code in depending on how current dynamic is written, but it seems within the realm of reasonable expectations. Given the size of Riot and League, such interface changes, though they add other layers of complication, fall well within the organization's capabilities. If the default of the list is 'Select' then there isn't even any extra steps or mouse clicks that a player has to use to enter a game.
