Longwinded ap "bruiser" item discussion

somthing that has been weighing on my mind of late was aggrivated by the proposed Diana rework on the pbe which was recently shown in the rework diana would lose her attack speed on her passive, they didnt propose a buff to replace this but we can assume damage numbers somewhere

this made me realise what the HUGE issue with champions like diana is, and its not diana

dianas kit has attack speed and on hit damage on her passive, both of which reward her for sticking out the fight, a low cd on her q and her ult, low cd's reward drawn out fights, a shield, and a fairly strong slow on her e, both of which reward draw out fights, her passive also gives her the boosted as for 3 attacks after every ability, rewarding her for spacing them out essentially her kit is very similar in many ways to irelia's, its a great "fighter" kit, if it was ad she would build triforce or cleaver and deaths dance yet she builds full assassin

Sylas has a passive which enhances his autos after each ability with no cd, rewarding him for spacing out abilities, his q has an INCREDIBLY low cd, rewarding him for staying in drawn out fights, his w and his e both give survivability (shield/heal) rewarding him for staying in the fight, and his ult (especially at high ranks) has a very low cd, rewarding him for staying in the fight if his kit was ad he would play and build nearly IDENTICAL to riven, the quintisential "fighter" yet he builds assassin in most games, and when hes not assassin hes full tank with no ap at all

Gragas and Ekko both also have things in their kit rewarding drawn out fights, gragas his damage reduction and relativly low cd on his w andq, and ekko his on hit bonus damage from his w and relativly low cd on his q and e

even Kassadin , his passive causes him to take less damage, rewarding drawn out fights, his w gives on hit damage, his ult is a low cd ability, his e has a really low cd and is rewarded for sticking in fights longer, his kit has a lot of tools for a drawn out longer fight, but he builds full assassin and tries to 1 shot people

these champions all have very good "fighter/bruiser/duelist" kits, but they all build either full assassin or full tank depending on meta why is that

well i came to the conclusion its ebcause THEY CANT there just arent the items for ap bruisers, they dont exist

look at the quintisential ad bruiser items item 3071 item 3812 item 3161 item 3078 item 3053 and to a lesser extent item 3074 item 3748 item 3022

all of which reward drawn out fights, be it large health pools, life recovery (or damage reduction in the case of DD), large amounts of cdr (20% for 3 of them) attack speed, and in the case of cleaver the armour pen builds up over the fight, making your 2nd rotation better then your 1st

compare these to the closest things to ap "bruiser" items item 3165 item 3116 item 2065 item 3152 item 3151 item 3146 item 3115 item 3100 item 3027 (im not even counting the "ludens" type items as they are designed from the ground up to be poke/burst mage items)

lets compare them morelos offers health, but thats where the similarity ends, its health value is low and it offers no cdr, instead giving a large amount of ap and magic pen, both of which reward dumping your damage in a burst and getting out rylies has the same deal, low health, no cdr, high ap. it rewards burst gunblade, no health, no cdr, VERY expensive with wasted stats in ad, in return you get the active....which rewards bursting lichbane, no health and its active rewards stacking ap, it rewards burst nashors, great carry item, no defensive stats, bad fighter item shurelyas, has all the right stats....in REALLY low numbers because its cost is weighted on its active liandries, its 2 passives are GREAT for a fighter item, if they would just drop 30 ap and give it some cdr.....as it is its a dot based mage item, though it is close rod of ages, very good health, but with its stack time its a compulsory first buy if your getting it, and bruisers/fighters need cdr early, no bruiser gets titanic or steraks 1st item, they go trin or cleaver INTO titanic or steraks. its stack time also causes it to favour late game scalers over "mid game" which bruiser/fighter champions tend to be

protobelt is the only ap item i would actually consider a GOOD bruiser item, if it was ad and not ap i feel a few fighter type champions would buy it, but one item is NOT enough

in addition to the lack of items overall, a "fighter" is supposed to be a self reliant champion in a 1v1 vs the tank or adc the fighter should win, as they outtank the adc and out damage the tank, but the fighter+adc team should lose to the tank+adc team as the tank dies slower to the enemy adc then the fighter does.

this is why one of trinity or cleaver is pretty much essential on every fighter champions, because these two items are fantastic "anti tank" items, offering a lot of constant damage in trinities case, and the armour pen in cleavers there is NO comparable ap items to these two lichbane rewards burst damage far more then trinity does, while the penetration items available to mages are either flat item 3165 which is bad vs tanks, or item 3135 , which offers ONLY ap and penetration meaning it offers no "staying power" in a drawn out fight, its designed for burst mages

ap bruisers NEED items designed for ap bruisers i personally think there should be a few new ap items added, with at least an "equivalent" for the cleaver, dd and trinity (a lower damage more "survivability" version of lichbane)

my proposed "ap cleaver" would build from haunting guise and a kindlegem, and offer 400 health, 50ap, 20%cdr, and a passive which grants 2%magic penetration for each second in champion combat up to 20% thus low "burst" damage, but heavily rewarding the more drawn out "fighter" pattern

my proposed "dd" equivalent would be 70ap, 10%cdr, 15%lifesteal/spellvamp (same passive) and a varient of the "lifeline" passive which grants 300% of life leached by this item in the last 4 seconds as a shield when you drop below 30% and doubling the lifesteal value until out of combat some burst mages might like this, but with my proposed shield design burst type champions would either get no real bonus from the extra healing (because they did their burst before it triggered) or no real reward from the shield because they didnt heal much before dropping low) while a "fighter" type champion who will constantly do damage both before AND after the lifeline trigger gets both benifits

sorry for the MASSIVE post i just felt i should be specific

Recurve Bow+Sheen+Fiendish Codex for the Triforce equivalence? Needlessly Large Wand+ Kindlegem for the spear of shojin equivalence. Oblivion Orb+ Catalyst the Protector for Sterak's Guage equivalence (plus some bonus mana and the unique passive of healing on ability cast as well as flat penetration from Oblivion orb)

just a couple of my quick ideas from reading this post.
