Thoughts on Manamune: takes too long to scale? needs more utility?

Joanna JQueen··25 votes·2,644 views

What buffs (if any) would you like to see? is getting item 3043 taking too long? does it need optional utility?

what are your thoughts? what would you like to be added/buffed/re-worked, or tweaked?

hey, i hear you have mana issues, lets give you a weapon that will rapidly drain everything you stacked

this is so true, u have to manage that and it's really anti-fun

Imo, even reducing the mana consumption to 2% for 6% as damage would be a major help in that area.

But really, they should change it to have an active like Seraph's, maybe some sort of mana bomb, like "consumes 15% of current mana to deal 30% of your current mana as physical damage on your next single target attack or ability that strikes an enemy. 90 second cooldown"

Games are ending before it's even finished.

I think the problem there are multiple problems regarding Manamune/Muramana:

-No AD assassins in the mid lane or top lane take it (Either because they use Energy, manaless, or don't require mana in the late-game)

-It takes to long to scale, in a meta where snowballing lanes is a top priority, most games end early enough that you might not even have gotten atleast half the mana requirement for Muramana

-Very few champions use it, the only champ that comes to mind right now is Ezreal

In my opinion I think they should lower the mana requirement for both Archangel's and Manamune so mana-hungry champions can have more power early-game

Ezreal, Jayce, and maybe Lucian are the only champions I can think of that might realistically use Manamune.

IIRC, it was it's use on Jayce that prompted the nerf to the item, as switching stances counted as a spell cast for the purpose of stacking it.

Y'all are forgetting Urgot. But the game is very imbalanced for AD champions right now. If you don't stack crit you're basically fucked. If you happen to build crit you get a free 30% CDR and infinite mana item. item 3508 On top of this you get 250% damage AAs..

This. I've paired the two before, great stats and it essentially makes the Muramana toggle free.

Simple solution - this will also bring it straight into line with Archangel's Staff/Seraph's Embrace. No longer punished for using the on-hit effect, and a cute little active to go with it.

item 3004 Manamune (Cost = 3100) Tear of the Goddess B.F. Sword Recipe = 1050

Item Stats: 70 attack damage, 250 mana, +50% base mana regeneration

Unique: Awe - Single target abilities and basic attacks (on-hit) gain bonus physical on-hit damage equal to 3% of your maximum mana. Unique: Mana Charge - Grants +8 maximum mana for each basic attack, spell cast, and mana expenditure (occurs up to 2 times every 8 seconds). Transforms into Muramana at +750 mana.

item 3042

Item Stats: 70 attack damage, 1000 mana, +50% base mana regeneration

Unique: Awe - Single target abilities and basic attacks (on-hit) gain bonus physical on-hit damage equal to 6% of your maximum mana. Unique: Mana Zone - Consume 20% of current mana to deal half this amount plus 100 as physical damage on your next damaging ability or basic attack in a radius of 300 (60 second cooldown).

Here are my suggested quality-of-life changes to Manamune/Muramana:

Manamune item 3070 + item 1038 + 980g (Total Cost 3000g) 50 AD, 250 Mana, 50% Base Mana Regen (Gold value of stats 1750g + 350g + 250g = 2350g) UNIQUE Passive – Awe: Gain attack damage equal to 2% of your maximum mana. UNIQUE Passive – Mana Charge: Grants +8 maximum mana for each basic attack, spell cast, and mana expenditure (occurs up to 2 times every 8 seconds). Transforms into Muramana at +750 mana. (Efficiency without passives 78.33%, 136.67% in stats at max stacks)

If old Archangel's Staff was always less slot efficient than Rod of Ages, than the current iteration of Manamune is always less slot efficient than Essence Reaver. Swapping Pickaxe out for BF Sword and giving most of its stats a bump helps it hit that sweet spot.

Muramana Evolves from fully stacked Manamune (Total Cost 3000g) 50 AD, 1000 Mana, 50% Base Mana Regen (Gold value of stats 1750g + 1400g + 250g = 3400g) UNIQUE Passive – Awe: Gain attack damage equal to 2% of your maximum mana. UNIQUE Active – Mana Arrow: Your next damaging ability within 8 seconds does bonus physical damage equal to 10% of your current mana to the first enemy champion hit. If multiple champions are simultaneously hit, only the champion with the lowest current health is affected. Consumes the same amount of mana from your mana pool on damage. (120 second cooldown, reduced to 5 seconds if no champion is damaged) (Efficiency without passive or active 113.33%, Awe passive grants an additional 2.33% points for every 100 mana from base/runes/items)

These changes are targeted at slot efficiency, as said before, and differentiating Muramana further from Essence Reaver. Currently, both items give mana sustain and autoattack damage (Muramana through its toggle, ER through crit) while simultaneously augmenting its wielder's casting. This change to Muramana would turn it into a pure caster item. Even if you never autoattacked, you could still make full use of this item.

It has numerous issues. It charges rather slowly, even slower than just a tear even. So updating early can be a bad idea. It doesn't add all that much damage without the active, but the active willd drain you mana even faster than your abbilities, so that the 1000 extra is almost worthless. Also the more damage it does the more mana it drains and the less mana you have the less damage it does, which is kinda paradox.

I would change it so that it charges 6 mana each action and I woule let it regenerate mana when the bonus damage is toggled off.

Also turn it from % current mana to % max mana or turn the toggle into an active that uses a fixed amount of mana for a bonus AD steroid.

ZT Xperimentor2 votes

Not to mention the mana % conversion into bonus attack damage is rather pitiful.

CatSith1 votes

That's because it has an active to give you bonus damage.....

ZT Xperimentor2 votes

That's beside it, both take place; but the point is the item is only niche on several champions since the essence reaver got reworked.

Duke Anax2 votes

Right, but with the active it drains your mana fast, so it's heavily limited.

GigaPube1 votes

imo the worst item active in the game, only useful for jayce empowered Q, ezreal ult, or urgot lock-on Q. also, imo again, to me its the hardest to keep track of, id really like a better active component, especially since essence reaver by itself is already a much better item, lesbihonest

Duke Anax3 votes

That's exactly what I meant when I said, without active it hasn't got enough damage.

JedenVojak3 votes

It's supposed to be a mana AD caster item, but there are not... that many of those.

Correct me if I'm wrong but mana-based AD casters are:

Jayce Talon Sivir Yorick with Ezreal honerable mention even though he's technically a hybrid.

On top of that, the active component sort of runs counter to the thing you want to do with it, which is have mana to cast stuff on your mana hungry champion. Factor in the slowness of the stacking and well, it's just not getting the job done.

JarvanIVNocturne Olaf XinZhao Vi Corki Graves Quinn Lucian KogMaw can be really manahungry even later in the game if you use skills to waveclear or try to poke in a standoff, or just have a drawnout fight. Khazix Pantheon Shaco MonkeyKing Varus are very manahungry,

there are alot ad scaleing champs that could use some mana. Some of them can compensate with iceborn/FH, but usually deadman's or randuin's would be the better choice.

if i had a viable manaoption for them, i would take it. I actually played most of them with ER befor the rework, 80ad and 10% cdr were great stats on those champs, but with the new one you'd have to invest into crit, which doesn't suite those champs all that much.

JedenVojak2 votes

Well, most of those champions I would not want to build manamune on, either because I actually like crit, or because I don't want to delay my damage or tank stats.

For a few of those your mana option is probably item 3078 if anything.

Sire Hippington2 votes

thats the problem, i wouldn't want manamune on any off them either, it gives to little to late. However, if it was changed to be prettymuch an AA just with ad rather than ap, the shield active would enable you to engage on the likes of wu or J4 ans synergies with iceborn/FH, while the raw ad still should be nice for ad-assasins.

Old ER was nice as it gave good combat stats and healthsustain, you could rush it it and follow up with arpen or tankstats. However, unlike ER, manamune doesn't give anything in lane, and it isn't that great once finished to justify getting it. And new ER dictates a critbuilt, that only suits adc.

and the bit of mana from trinity hardly solves any real issues

JedenVojak1 votes

It may simply be that the champions who would have wanted to buy that item have had their base damages wrecked so hard that it's not worth delaying their damage to try and build the tear?

Sire Hippington2 votes

don't think so, i would happily stack my tear on some of them if the reward later on is good enough(and maybe kicks in a bit earlier than now), as most either can trade really effectivly in lane as long as they have the mana to use all their skills, or have good waveclear and/or some sustain.

Wu for example could just harras with e+aa+q and disengage with E befor your opponent can really trade back over and over again, wearing his enemie down even if each single trade doesn't hit as hard.

BastionKross3 votes

It was stacking slowly before this quick game meta, and now you might not even have it fully stacked before the game is over.

On top of that, the bonuses you get for stacking it aren't rewarding enough for all that time/early game power you sacrificed.

It needs to stack quicker, and be more rewarding when it does. And not having an ability that drains mana would be nice, since mana problems are why I built the damn thing in the first place.

Sire Hippington3 votes

my major problem withit is the active, followed by the not that great stats it gives, especially compared to item 3003 The stacking could also be a tad faster, unlike AA it hardly goes any faster by completing it.

If i invest gold into mana, i do that so i can have more impact in prolonged fights, i do it so i don't loose effectivity in longer fights! But the active does exactly that, it looses power the longer a fight goes, not only by draining your manapool but also by doing less damage the lower you are on mana. Aditionally, the power of the active depends alot on haveing spamable singletarget damage/high AS.

I would already be happy if it built from a big sword and gave stats equal to AA, like 40-45ad +2% of your mana as ad for 3100g with the same shield as active. Tha amount of ad would already be sufficient as damage, so you don't need it from the active part, and i'd aregue that any potential user will make some use of the active, adc can use it just like mages to prevent assasin from bursting them down, and assasin can really use some anti burst while diviing the backline.

Another issue is that there little other options for max mana that might synergies with it. As ap champ, you can atleast get RoA on top of AA for another 800mana, which translates to 24 more ap As ad champ, you have nothing.

Anyway, the current active is shit and the main reason i don't buy it.

CasterGilgamesh2 votes

it stacks too slow and when its full stacks it drains too much since it stacks so slow very few champions who might want it will not get it.Talon Caitlyn

Old Man Teeto2 votes

It's tons of mana, which is good on champions who need large pools such as Urgot, Varus, Blitz.

Urgot and Blitz get some defensive scaling from the mana, Blitz can't buy it reliably because he typically can't farm, Urgot is currently underwhelming outside laning phase, and Varus has fallen out of the meta as well.

All other AD Casters had mana costs based on not being able to buy a mana item, so Essence Reaver gives plenty of regeneration and their natural pools are large enough to do a ton of spells in a fight. This is particularly true of Ezreal and Jayce who basically have just transferred to building Essence Reaver instead. Also CDR is god.

MunchCrunchLunch2 votes

it needs to give ad as 3% of mana.

Wayward Killjoy2 votes

Manasteal has been tried waayyyyyy back in the beginning of league and was decided to be extremely unhealthy.

Items that build from Tear are for champions with large mana pools that spam skills consistently AND BUILD MORE MANA ITEMS. You have to realize, certain builds will give you the equivalent of a free BF Sword or two on certain champions because the AD scales off your max mana. When you're playing a champion that benefits from these playstyles, you're typically casting a lot of spells, which charges the item REALLY FAST. Ever seen an Urgot? His Q is basically an auto attack xD He charges up tear faster than Rammus' Powerball.

The item is a niche item like Guinsoo's Rageblade, Nashor's Tooth, Wit's End, etc. and is only meant for champions who build certain ways.

Items built by people this item synergizes with: Iceborn Gauntlet, Frozen Heart, RoA, Lichbane, Righteous Glory, Trinity Force, and Zeke's harbringer

Muramasa users (complete list, only ad champs) include: URGOT, YORICK, EZREAL, Corki, Sometimes Alistar, Sometimes Evelynn, Jayce, Occasionally Kassadin, Kog'Maw, Occasionally Taric, Occasionally Udyr (Bludyr is actually pretty insane, only against full ad comps)

Seraph's Embrace Users Include: Swain, Singed, Occasionally Sona, RYZE, Sometimes Nunu, Nidalee, Lissandra (Try it lol), Kog'Maw, Kassadin, Karthus, Evelynn, Ezreal, Cassiopeia, Corki, Blitzcrank, Sometimes Brand, Alistar

Reiterating: The item is a NICHE item and is meant to synergize with other items, or the champions kit. It's actually a super powerful item, don't believe me? I dueled a fed Nasus with 200+ Stacks as Urgot and won. 1v1. Neither of us moved. All I did was cast spells repeatedly and auto attack. He was full Armored out. How? Blurgot build 8D Muramasa, Gauntlet, Heart, BC

Angry Monster2 votes

i would like to see it removed. It is way to high on the risk reward. Its only core on urgot (they can do what ever to fix any issue removing this has for him).

Most users have to tear early into a BF/tri. This is a huge power delay and can cost the game.

The idea of the tear items is to have enough early game damage in base numbers and have an off scaling. possible reasons are high mana pool to off set high cast costs or damage that scales of (mana ryze, blitz, or urgot). This is actually the opposite of a traditional ADC philo, where you are weak early (in every stat) and have to build into useful. A delay like tear just hurts the class.

The item should be refocused as a tool for mana hungry bruisers instead of caster ADCs. Caster ADCs just need ER these days and crit.

Needs a regular active like its counter part: Active: Consumes X% current mana to gain magic damage on attacks for X seconds equal to Base Amount plus more based on the mana consumed. Could be physical, but would be cool if it added magic damage instead in my opinion since its sapping your mana.

Current active is not that good.

Its a toggle, not an active. the toggle needs to be... stronger, though. Like doubling the AD acquired from it on top of its damage buff.

I know that it currently a toggle. Im saying I dont like the toggle, and it should be an active, like the Seraph's Embrace. Instead of just insta-draining your mana on autos.

I don't have the link, but I remember seeing a quote on the ff@20 redpost saying something along the lines of "we would like to see mana become a stat you can be proud of to have on a champion" and "mana has traditionally been a holding back stat and should be something that is beneficial in some cases". that is not the actual quote that is just what I remeber

Ch0c0lateJesus2 votes

There are very few champs that even spam enough spells to fully stack it in a reasonable amount of time. Even then, the bonus damage is rather underwhelming considering how quickly it drains mana when active.

with item 3508 so good right now, just buy that. Don't bother trying to fix manamune, we have a replacement

Sire Hippington2 votes

unless you don't want to play a champ that uses crit, or you just don't want to rely on rng....old ER was a way better item, it was viable for way more different champs, and less powerfull on certain abuse casesLucian , and it didn't force you into a specific built.

SolusInCadere1 votes

I don't know that many champions who simultaneously don't benefit from crits, yet are mana hungry while simultaneously not able to pick up item 3110 or item 3025, and instead want the damage of item 3004.

item 3508 is for ADcarries who rely on abilities more than the 'standard' for the role. that's exactly what item 3004 is for, it just does the job moor poorly.

item 3004 could be fore ADcasters, but those guys tend to go tanky/not have mana issues, so they can build the the two tank items I mentioned above. Hec, item 2033 will fix their issues.

Not to mention a stupid amount of AD casters are manaless. LeeSin, Zed, Gnar, Renekton, Riven, Shyvana (although she's very auto-attack-y), RekSai

Yorick is literally impossible to play without item 3004

Yordle Xayah1 votes

The item can be finished at 22 mins with no problem. I don't think that's too long...

The item's assets on the other hand are ultra broken. When you die, the active visual goes away and when you are charging the tear it only shows the 4 second CD whenever it feels like it so you have to time it in your mind.

The item has been like that for YEARS literally, but it was a priority to nerf Swain first of course.

l Helios l1 votes

You don't build manamune unless you have a spammable champion, i.e. Karthus, Jayce, Ryze, Yorick, Kog'maw, etc. It's harder to stack on champions with higher CD's, so it's not worth the effort. You're sacrificing some early game pressure for late game poke and damage so one needs to be careful.

As a side note, mana-hungry =/= needs manamune. A really annoying mistake I see a lot.

In terms of buffs and stuff: it's not bad as is. It's just unfavorable in the meta due to shorter games and snowballing. However, if you're good you can have a muramana by 25 minutes pretty easily on most champions if you get a tear first back.
