Katarina is still the most OP Snowballing Champion in the game

yobhguod··7 votes·7,150 views

She has the highest AP ratio on her ultimate, she gets an automatic cool down reduction on kills/assists, and she gets damage reduction. No AP Caster/Assassin/Mage gets these kind of free stats. Ever since you changed her kit, she has become more OP. She was more balanced during seasons 1/2 than any other champion. Why? Because she had a high skill cap, understanding how her kit worked and knowing when to use her passive abilities, is what made her a strong champion. Every other assassin in this game, that snowballed this hard has gotten nerfed. Akali, Diana, Zed, Talon, Evelynn, Kassadin, Ahri, Kha'zix, Rengar and LeBlanc. They were all very strong for 2-3 patches at time before being fixed. Katarina stands as the most OP champion in this game because of her free 15 second CD. Either change it to a % of the CD per ability, nerf her ultimate AP ratio or completely remove her passive for a new one. Currently when Katarina hits late game, nobody can outrun her ultimate. Sure you can CC her, silence her, lock her down during her ultimate...but in a team fight, after 2 assist + 5 seconds passing by...she can use her ultimate again and by that time you're either too low from before, your cc ability is on cd or you are already dead.

Nunu is the strongest snowballing champion in the game.

We need a snowball gragas skin.

Kat has no way of stunning, silencing, or even slowing down her target. Yes, you heard that right: not a single one of her abilities applies a slow. An easy way to avoid heavy damage from Kat's R is to simply walk away from her once she starts channeling. The rest of Kat's team needs to be really good and putting a lot of pressure on the other team in order for her to do any serious damage to multiple targets. Otherwise, CC shuts her down very easily.

Well she's melee, so first off a lot of other mids can harass her pre 6. I main ahri and personally love kat matchups. Really easy to land charm when she jumps in for a cs, and once she hits 6 on her ult. If charm is down when she ults, my ult can get me out of range, and then back in for follow up when it's done.

In teamfights she should be focused down if present, if she goes to ult someone should have hard cc on her and then she should be dead before they can peel. Thus kat should have to wait until cc is used before she enters the fight, meaning if played well she won't have much presence in a team fight either.

If you don't bring multiple cc against kat, that's your own fault in the champion select phase. Same goes for most champions though, against the right combination of opponents they're OP.

Black Shield. Teamwork is OP both for shutting Kat down and setting up for her.

She is strong, but the most op champ in the game? Not even close. Then again, she is obviously on the hate train right now with every other assassin ever and she is especially dangerous against bad players that don't know how to ward or abuse her in lane. Don't run around in packs of 25% groups. Moreover, her job in team fights is to wait until your teams life is low, meaning for the first few seconds it is 5v4...win the team fight and save a cc or two for the inevitable kat and she is manageable. Or everyone can keep bitching until every assassin is nerfed over and over and adcs and supports occupy every lane.

I am beating the most dead horse on these boards right now, but ALL you have to do is be on top of CC-ing Katarina. If you make her your number one priority as a team, you should have no trouble at all. Keep vision of her, and don't go into any risky engagements without knowing where she is. If your team is lacking hard CC, you are probably going to die.

She is i don't see why anyone can dislike that its true once shes fed she can kill almost anyone with 2 moves

EvilRabbitt2 votes

Its always 3, usually 4. Shunpo and ultimate don't do enough initial damage or total damage, and most people will just stand in Kat's ult and beat her to death. If she dagger, shunpo, ult, she has to be within a 500 range and use 3 moves. This still is not the best damage as she is doing a rather abyssmal amount of damage since her dagger has to wait til her shunpo lands on you then ult. If she shunpo before her dagger makes its arch onto you, she has to wait until second ult hit to proc dagger secondary damage.

The only clear reason why this post was created is because every noob plays her in Hexakill.

She's so easy to shut down it isn't even fun to play her 90% of the time.

She's extremely unbalanced in almost every map besides Summoner's Rift. That's why Boards is getting all these "Katarina OP" threads. Riot just needs to give her some map-specific nerfs and it'll be fine.

Why do that when nobody even plays her outside of Hexakill or One for All/URF mode events.

Direwolfiez1 votes

Because it ruins the experiences of the people who play against Kats in ARAM and other modes. If they know what they're doing, most Kats will be getting several Pentas per ARAM game. Several champs have TT-specific ability changes, so I don't see why Riot can't adjust her numbers on a few maps.

Or people could just git gud and quit complaining about a champion that literally explodes the moment she's hit with CC. It's like all those people bitching about Fiora that one time and how her ult was "OP"; when it reality she blew up after she used it and nobody understood that she was stupidly UP

Direwolfiez1 votes

Are you trying to say that Kat is underpowered by comparing her to Fiora? lol If you think she's underpowered you're high. As for ARAM games, NOT EVERYONE HAS CC. Think about it for a second. Just...let it sink in. ALL RANDOM, ALL MID.

Yes I'm 'high' for pointing out the biggest glaring weakness in Katarina's ability to even be useful in team fights. Plus, it's near impossible to not get a single champion without any form of misplacement or crowd control. Even if the odds were not in your favor and you did, one simple and easy answer is Exhaust. And if for some reason you don't have that in ARAM, then get a Zhonyas and have at it. Zhonyas on any character, AD or AP is great. Stasis is too good to not get.

Okay OP, here's how you beat Katarina. It's very simple.

If you are support, choose one of the following champions: Leona, Braum, Janna, Thresh, Blitzcrank, Nami, Fiddlesticks Save a single piece of easy to land CC for Katarina (IE nami wave or janna ultimate), she has to jump in eventually or she will be entirely useless in the fight.

If you are jungle, choose one of the following champions: Jarvan, Wukong, Amumu, Rammus, Xin Zhao, Fiddlesticks, Pantheon Target Katarina in fights. Chase her away or lock her down and let your team blow her up. If she jumps in your job gets even easier.

If you are mid, choose one of the following champions: Lissandra, Riven, Pantheon, Jayce, Leblanc, Azir She won't be able to CS in lane. Ward and followe her when she roams to prevent ganks from succeeding. She will do no damage in fights and you can target whoever else you want.

Okay, so I could keep going but I hope you get the point here. Katarina is hard countered by a massive number of champions, all it takes is a little planning and decent reflexes. Ward and don't let her get kills and she won't deal the damage that she needs to in fights to carry.

Direwolfiez2 votes

I wouldn't say she's the most OP champ in the game, because she's not, but I do feel that she's really not fun to play against, and she has an absurd amount of power in her passive.

Leblancs Boob2 votes

Her laning is terrible so you really have to get outplayed for her to snowball, and assuming she does snowball any 1 cc ability in a fight makes her completely useless

Paigers2 votes

i wouldn't say she's op, she just has a toxic kit that makes it extremely unfun to play against when she begins snowballing. easy counter to her is cc, but if the enemy Kat is smart they stand off in fights until cc is blown/are guaranteed a reset. just watch out because once she gets rolling, she can usually insta-burst all-in her target (typically adc or mid) and then Shunpo out to safety. regardless, she's not really op, just has an annoying kit that needs to be toned down. most Kats play dumb anyways, just keep an eye out for their mistakes.

The moment i can CC Katarina without dying instantly is the moment i will stop complaining about that ebola.

She's a pub stomper and shouldn't be rewarded for it.

kat not op. well this hexakill mode on twisted treeline. i saved this screenshot. look at the scores. both teams had a kat.

I think you people are misunderstanding me. I know 100% how to counter Katarina. I never said I had trouble killing her. I was pointing out that she has the most OP kit out of all assassins because she has gone the longest without a rework or nerf to her AP ratios. A 300 AP kat at level 11 does over 1.2k raw damage. No summoner in the game can burst that much in the small window she has.

At level 11 with 300 AP and prioritizing abilities to do the most raw burst, Katarina does 2105 damage before resistances.

Donger does 2352 in the same situation without having to stand still for 2.5 seconds in the middle of a team. Brand does 2270 also not having to stand still for 2.5 seconds in the middle of the enemy team. Vel'koz does 2308 and while he has to stand still for 2.5 seconds, he doesn't have to do so in the middle of the enemy team. And ~400 of that damage is true damage.

I knew I forgot to mention something, all three of them can stop Kat's ult and, therefore, her primary source of damage! Thanks for reminding me :D

EDIT: And for shits and giggles, Nunu does 2200 damage, though he channels a bit longer. But he makes up for it by having his ult hit the entire enemy team equally.
