100% Convinced ARAM has...

to be reworked to allow all champions to be picked. Seeing the same champions over and over again has ruined this game mode. I had the most fun with ARAM during the first 3-4 months of it, now? It's a toss up and a gamble. I can't win against teams with super poke or super sustain. It's obnoxious and I'm getting sick of it. Please at least balance it out. You nerfed healing, AWESOME! Now nerf poke.

Hey, why dont we all take a second and remember that ARAM is not to be taken seriously and is just for fun, not competition. Problem solved.

ecneregilleb11 votes

On a serious note: not everyone owns all the champs... so you are likely to see the more popular champions more frequently by default. The only real way to fix that is to make it so everyone can get any champ in ARAM whether they own them or not.

Zielmann18 votes

That's exactly what we've all been asking for for ages now. Make all champs available in the mode, and suddenly ARAM smurfs don't mean anything anymore.

Tin Tarantino4 votes

I do own all the champs and I still seem to get the same ones over and over again, there are some I've never played but I lost count of how many times I've gotten Cassiopeia without even needing to reroll. I think I've gotten Kog'maw 4 times in the last few days.

Ginny1 votes

I own them all as well, and I also seem to get the same ones a lot. It seems like some have a higher chance of getting picked than others.

This would throw off my calculations in my other comment on this thread.

INTER5TELLAR1 votes

I own 87, now, but back when I owned 70-75ish, I got Taric 3 matches in a row. Prior to that, I got Jax 4 out of 10 matches I played with friends.

Zielmann26 votes

Exactly why we want to put a stop to players who are making it un-fun by manipulating the 'random' aspect to give them a better shot at winning.

DrCyanide1 votes

I give up, why do we have crit?

Oh, right, ARAM...

TheSlappySlap12 votes

The entire game is meant to be fun and not taken seriously. And yet people do care. Just because you seem to think ARAMs are less "serious" than any other mode does not mean that ARAM should be a mode that people actively exploit to win.

Let's say a person owns 1 champion - Jayce. Now let's assume that they want to have Jayce every ARAM game.

If Jayce is in the Free Champion Rotation, they have a 10% chance - that's a lot - of getting Jayce in an ARAM. If Jayce is not in the Free Champion Rotation, they have a 9% chance - still a lot - of getting Jayce in an ARAM.

For one champion, that's a large chance when compared to, if you have the entire champion pool of 123 (as of the date of this post, 20/1/2015) champions, which is about a 0.8% chance. It's 10x more likely they'll get Jayce.

Those odds are way too easy to exploit via ARAM smurfs.

Note that these percentages are theoretical.

Zielmann9 votes

Now, let's say you unlock 10 out of the top 15 champs in aram. Worst-case (no overlap with free champs), you're at a 50% chance of getting one of them.

Now, look at the list of free champs available in any given week and pick out what's good for aram (not top-tier, but generally something that's pretty solid). It's always set up to be capable of building two standard SR teams. Most likely, the available supports will be alright for aram. Any Marksman is useful to have in aram. The mid-lane mages are likely to be okay picks. So really, only 4 out of the 10 free champs (junglers an top laners) are more or less up-in-the-air. Though it is often nice to have something to act as a solid front line on the team, too.

Still, if there's only 4 champs of the free week pool that you actively don't want for aram, that means the other 16 you've got a chance of getting are at least good, if not top-tier, which makes for a pretty solid 80% of your available pool.

Add in rerolling and it becomes guaranteed.

Zielmann5 votes

That's kind of touchy and muddies the math a little bit, because you'd also have to somehow factor in that they get rerolls less frequently. This could be worked out but I really don't feel like it right now.

But to your point, I at least like to see a tweak to the reroll formula put in. Perhaps they could get rid of the base 30 reroll points you get per game, so it's only based off the number of champions you own. It would make it take significantly longer for these accounts to get a reroll. Or, to not punish newer players playing ARAM, make it 30 - summoner level + total champs owned.

Kalarepa2 votes

Actually you can make it almost 100% guaranteed by doing these:

  1. Create account with only OP ARAM champions.
  2. Join ARAM, if you didn't get OP champion - reroll.
  3. If you still didn't get OP champion - dodge.
  4. Now there is a penalty for dodging, but you can easily bypass it by creating few smurfs accounts and switching between them. It shouldn't be that hard, there are thousands of bots leveling fresh to buy accounts (just join Dominion game right now, if you don't believe me).

It's just sad reality of ARAM in these days and yet Riot still doesn't react...

Do people seriously make ARAM smurfs? :/ lol

BallisticMouse2 votes

Yes.

They are people who only buy champions like Jayce, Nidalee, Blitzcrank, etc. Aram winners.

Yes, and it actually runs pretty rampant.

Bots wouldn't care about win/loss. These people obviously just want to win and ruin the fun part of a map that doesn't mean anythingprestige wise. I envision most of them as bronze trash that can't win any other way.

Just seems like getting to LVL 30 w/o running a bot (having the computer play for you, I mean, to get to 30) is a lot of work just to be able to play ARAM better lol but maybe there are people that pathetic

Zielmann6 votes

Nerf poke? No. Make it less common to get near-perfect team comps by making all champs available? Definitely.

ARAM is pretty much the only reason I play anymore, and it has gotten stale. As much as I love the new map and having an actual queue now, ARAM smurfs combined with the re-roll system have made it extremely frustrating to play now.

SelflessTeammate3 votes

But...I think that's kind of the fun.

I think of it like Ranked fighting games in which you don't know against whom you'll be playing. Sometimes it's just a counter-pick to your character, it happens, especially in fighters. (Baraka does not want to fight Sub-Zero. Scorpion does not want to fight Shang Tsung. Elizabeth definitely does not want to fight Sho. No one wants to fight Dante for any reason because he has no weaknesses. And so on.)

Granted, matches last a lot longer in ARAM, but I like the challenge if you kinda get screwed a bit. Sometimes we end up with four supports and a fighter.

And sometimes you pretty much win at champ select. I got Blitzcrank once...With Kalista, Lucian, Varus, and Jinx. Yeah, that went as you'd expect.

But it's like mystery skins, kinda. You just don't know how it'll really end up. Even if they "win" champ selection, that doesn't necessarily mean they're any good as that particular champ, you know? I've seen plenty of lousy Threshes and Fiddlesticks.

Zielmann4 votes

By 'all champions to be picked', we don't mean let people pick their champion. That'd be awful and no longer ARAM. What we mean is to make the entire champion pool available to all players, so they can't manipulate the random to give them a greater chance at a top-tier champion.

I agree that part of the fun is in working with the team you get, and figuring out how to deal with the other team. But because of ARAM smurfs (and partially rerolls as well), you really only see the same subset of champions all the time right now.

AikidoLawnNinja3 votes

I feel the biggest problem with ARAM is how damn long it takes to get into a game, due to tryhard whiners dodging every match until the champ composition is no longer "random". Out of re-rolls? Don't like your random champ? Team composition not optimal? Just dodge and try again! Ugh.

TonyTonyMordecai2 votes

The only way to nerf poke would be to make it so that the whole champion pool is available to everyone. Gives a chance to play as at least everyone when you want a game without any seriousness involved

X SkeletonCandy2 votes

Allow 3 bans per team, unlock all champions for everyone to crush those POS ARAM smurfs.

Inquizelus2 votes

Just like the complaints with iTunes feeling "not random enough" when it was completely RNG-based. "We want things to be less random so they only seem more random."

GLWuffie1 votes

Here's an idea, on ARAM, the more champions you have, the LESS LIKELY you are to get a free-week champ? I know that is kinda already the case, but what if it was implemented MORESO (like a bonus extra chance). This way if you're, say running a ARAM-based account, it'd be more likely to choose a champ you don't have (like if you own 7 champs or less?) and guide you to a free week champ. Not to say that this will happen 100% of the time, but here's the reasoning.

For ARAM, if you don't have a lot of champions, it's a good way to kinda see and experiment with champs you don't normally play as (free week). When you DO have quite a bit of champions to choose from, you show versatility (for the most part) and that you don't rely on a specific small range of champs.

maybe like:

0-3 champs = 90% free week chance (FWC) 4-8 champs = 75% FWC 9-14 champs = 60% FWC 15-19 = 50% FWC 20+ = regular RNG used

...numbers adjusted to whatever, this is just a vague example.

Zielmann4 votes

Seems overly complex and outside the spirit of ARAM. Opening up the full champion roster to everybody would be far simpler and even more effective.

Then, if they choose to leave re-rolls in, they can leave the re-roll point gain mechanism the same as it is now, so it would actually give players a true advantage by owning all the champions.

Qsario1 votes

I'd love to see this. I suspect Riot might be worried that the mode would sub for buying them, but I wonder.

I would expect a bit of QQ over people getting, say, Poppy or someone they can't play (which is silly, she's actually quite good vs. squishy teams... I've carried hard with her on ARAM).

Zielmann2 votes

Leave the reroll point system exactly as it is today, and you actually give ARAM players incentive to unlock all the champs.

Qsario1 votes

That's a really good point.

Especially with the ARAM-accounts where they get the cheap & good champs and skip everyone else making it an anti-incentive to get more champs for us ARAMers :/

Sdf931 votes

Yea I think that would make the gamemode alot more fun. Personally sick of never seeing rare champs like Yorick or Urgot because no one owns them. It would be cool to see those kind of champs more often or atleast make it more possible to happen. Make it truly Outragous Taric

EpikFeeder1 votes

Actually, allowing all champs in aram would likely increase rp sells. Someone is more likely to buy rp from getting to play a champion randomly that they enjoy. Rather than grinding out the 6300 ip and not having any runes other than a standaard set of ad and ap runes -_-

Zielmann1 votes

I would spend more RP. Not on champions but on skins. I'm not an ARAM smurf by any means, but right now the 20-30 champions I haven't unlocked, I have no intention of buying because I'd rather than not be in my pool for ARAM. Some of them actually have skins that I think are pretty awesome. I'd actually unlock those champs and buy those skins if all champs were available in ARAM anyhow.

Miku Lv991 votes

I think I might be worse than an ARAM smurf. I pretty much just don't buy any champs on my main that would be bad in ARAM. So I'm kinda done buying champs so I have like no use for IP already. I wouldn't put forth the effort to make a dedicated ARAM smurf account. ARAM would probably be better if you could just get anyone so I wouldn't have to worry about the drawbacks of buying new champs.

Although this does present a new problem. There are lots of champions that barely get to do anything in ARAM. If it were random of all champs, I would probably end up just deciding to dodge a whole lot of the time since I wouldn't want to play those really boring games.

HadesHellfire1 votes

yes, poke can be unbearable sometimes. and a lot of people would just say, "hey dodge the skillshot!" and yes this may be true but i cant dodge every skillshot every time. and with people like nid, jayce, etc. one shot you dont dodge can be the end of you. and not only that, nid and jayce def have a kit beyond just poke. so seriously, i think this needs at least some fixing for aram.

or at least make it where the random champions everyone rolls are just a bit less random to mak ea bit more of a balanced team.

Delphinium1 votes

I agree that ARAM need to allow all champions to be picked, but not sure about the nerfing pokes. If you specificly said about neft poke, that mean neft the champion?

P.S. Pokes does hurt, but Kayle is the one kills you.

Since they're always available to everyone, you're naturally going to see them more often. When you own every champ, you get free champs about as often as expected (about 1/10th of the time).

Have you ever seen a Super tank Comp? Well you can't really win against that since they can tank all your damage and deal their own steady DPS

just like katarina.... everyone practically owns her and if you dont get her, you can get 2 free chances to get her. BALANCED

Pengod1 votes

It's called all random for a reason. They can't just put in to increase or decrease a champs pick chance or whatever.

bluekhezzy1 votes

I think the randomness should calculate in team comp. Many times I have been on or against a team with nothing but tanks and that's not fun.

Coudln't agree more even if I wanted to. Seeing either Lux, Nid, Jayce or AP ezreal every single game just isn't normal. Specially when you face 4 luxes in a row.
