Can we please get a hotfix for Jax? He's not even remotely viable to play in top lane anymore.

item 3153 had its active nerfed and later on had its onhit component reduced to a measly 6% of the target's current health. item 3078 lost it's AP and Attack Speed so Jax was left with a 3800 sheen proc (thanks for giving us 15% Attack Speed?), and it looked like the end for top lane Jax, until Guinsoo's Rageblade was changed. Top lane Jax who sat around a 45% winrate consistently to the point that only Jax mains with 125+ games managed a solid 52+ winrate was nerfed heavily and repeatedly.

Why? Because junglers were abusing a 50% AS 60 magic onhit item which turned into item 1419. This effectively increased junglers' damage by 50% or more thanks to abusing onhit effects. Jungle Jax gets Top lane jax nerfed so hard because Jax abuses jungle camps and the afk farm/free onhit lifestyle. But that was before Riot took away the one fun item in top lane that allowed Bruisers to actually DUEL tanks who auto win lane once they purchase item 3751 .

It was okay to sit on a item 1026 and a item 1037 to the enemy tank's item 3751 and item 1031 because when they got item 3068 you had your Rageblade. Not this piece of shit, item 3124, the old Guinsoo's Rageblade. The useless components were made into a very powerful item which you had to stack but could still use in teamfights (4 autos). Now, we spend an additional 1100 gold on a RECURVE BOW???@??!?!?!?!?!?!??!!? We lose AOE so no waveclear on Jax, who is all single target damage. We lose attack speed and the rate at which we get all stacks is slowed since you got 16% AS per AA which let you stack it quicker, but now you get 8% AS per AA which means you will NEVER have the sated effect procced in a teamfight. But this post isn't about Rageblade, it's about Jax and why he sucks.

Jax finally had a viable attack speed item to build, and snowballed games aside, he was only assassinating squishies because he built full damage. If the old rageblade was so unbalanced, then why did Jax never crack the 48% winrate barrier in the last 3 patches?

Yes, Jungle Jax was a problem and he got my top lane Jax nerfed to shit which is fine. But now Riot has removed Devourer, even jungle jax's winrate is at the bottom tier of junglers. (Jax has been near the bottom for top laners for a loooong time).

The champions that keep this stale, tank meta in line are Bruisers. Maokai shits on Bruisers because they can spend all their mana chunking a quarter of his health while he presses Q, an omnidirectional skill shot which does a quarter of your own health because you know, you're building damage vs a Tank. The sheer base damages of tanks in combination with their hard CC (and purchaseable IBG procs) breaks top lane altogether. A tank is much more impactful in a teamfight because a glass cannon Jax/Irelia get blown up for trying to frontline vs an Azir/Caitlyn. The Tank can soak damage and AoE CC many people. Tanks aren't supposed to be strong in 1v1s, but they currently SHIT ON BRUISERS AND FIGHTERS!!!! Tryndamere Aatrox Irelia Hecarim Fiora Jax Renekton Riven Rumble Yasuo are getting anally brutalized by Maokai DrMundo Graves Fizz Malphite Nautilus Poppy Sion Trundle Volibear and a lot of this would be resolved if you know, 1v1 champs like Jax could ACTUALLY duel tanks? Then champs like Renekton Pantheon Teemo Jayce would be viable as they counter lategame scaling bruisers instead of being nullified the instant the enemy tank gets a Cowl or Chainvest into surprise surprise, full tank.

Here are my suggestions:

  1. Revert all changes to Rageblade, and make the onhit/AoE effect Melee only.
  2. Let melee champs stack Rageblade twice as fast if you won't revert Rageblade.
  3. Make Jax's W AoE, like Gragas W. This will give Jax some waveclear to work with when split pushing in top lane and increase his contribution in teamfights.
  4. If you won't give Jax waveclear on W, give his W a 12% damage reduction passive on the target it is used on. This solidifies Jax's persona of being the ultimate 1v1 champ.

Currently I have ZERO fun playing top lane and I just don't play ranked anymore. Wukong is pretty fun in top lane since I can get my head kicked in by a tank, but I can use my AoE assassination in teamfights to do well when we group. Besides Wukong, no melee bruisers are viable into full tanks. Sure, I can bash my head in and play Maokai/Malphite/Sion for the freelo or pick up Graves/Quinn/Lissandra which shit on melee bruisers further, but I'm a melee bruiser kinda guy and Jax is so completely useless, even with Rageblade that I'm done wit hLeague til this shit is patched, ASAP.

You will only earn downvotes but no arguments against it. because the majority of these boards consists of low elo mage mains who have no idea about balance and think bruisers are op.

Jax is horrible in both jungle and toplane atm but I don't care about his jungle as long as they make him playable.

People will just down vote and say nothing about this kinda of thing,

They do not like bruisers but are oblivious to the things they are often good against and in turn keep in check like assassins.

It's my first time on the boards so receiving any reply is a win in my book. That being said, people seem more upset about tanks right now and my argument is that champions like Jax keep tanks in check. A Jax or Irelia are extremely easy to peel and kite off an ADC with the help of a support/teammates since they can be bursted after using a gap closer. A Maokai will just laugh at your team while W/Qing you repeatedly and taking 0 damage.

I dunno about whether or not Jax keeps tanks in check. He's a great late game but Jax is only as strong as the health of his items. I still think Jax should prioritize focusing carries or split pushing rather than being a tank checker. After all tanks can screw Jax over pretty hard. Once Jax uses his initial engage, he's screwed if he got disengaged. That's why he should try to take a flanking route away from peelers.

That's still irrelevant when talking about the state of Jax. He's very weak right now.

When Jax is strong no one picks tanks because he destroys them in lane.

Eevee In A Jar2 votes

When you theory craft, try to think more than just 1 dimensional. You're on the right track; just go one step further. WHY does Jax destroy them in lane? Jax is a late game champ. Tanks need items to be tanky and fulfill their role effectively. If you look at a lot of the tanks; they have pretty weak early game and are usually mid to late game champs because they need to itemize. In order to counter Jax, you want champions that are lane bully or have simply strong laning phase so you can deny Jax his late game.

It's not that Jax specifically destroys tanks. Tanks can effectively counter build against Jax. An AA based champion is relatively easy to counter build against doubly so since the nerf of Devourer and Guinsoo's. But it's rather about good number of tanky champs having weak early game that allows Jax to scale.

Honestly though this is all irrelevant because the topic is about how weak Jax is right now. His core items got nerfed and Jax is the type of champ that's only as strong as the health of his items. There was no compensation buff to offset the nerf. It's not even that Jax was OP or anything; this nerf was more targeted towards Master Yi but champs like Jax suffered simply as collateral damage.

I don't get you buddy...my point is that if Jax is strong tanks won't be a problem because he can destroy them in lane and make them useless.

It is true that he is item dependant for that, the cheap Rageblade with mixed damage allowed him to beat any tank once he had it completed...but how does this matter?

Ralanr1 votes

Well you didn't give the reason. You just said "X" without explaining the "Y".

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

Obvious to anyone who knows the game lol.

All assumptions do is make you an ass.

Ralanr1 votes

Jax is strong against tanks because he's a dps champion, dps counters tank.

The longer the fight goes, the better chance Jac has to win the fight.

Eevee In A Jar1 votes

I agree that the longer the fight goes Jax has a chance to win the fight but DPS doesn't counter tanks. Tanks counter DPS. They counter build specifically to survive and lock down damage champions for priority targeting. In many cases you counter build specifically to shut down the efficiency of said DPS champion.

Ralanr1 votes

In my experience, tanks counter burst. Dps counters tanks because they don't give tanks a window to breath.

Eevee In A Jar1 votes

In a 1v1 where Jax is using ult, the tanks generally can't output as much damage as Jax does. Jax is equivalent to a hypercarry bruiser late game so that's where his ability to defeat tanks come from but it's not as simple as DPS > Tanks. But yes in this scenario you are correct.

Ralanr1 votes

Well I never said dps counters tank early. Dps is weak early.

Yes, because jax destroys malphite so freaking hard

I don't understand. Bruisers can be blown up quickly, but Tanks shrug off mages not named Azir thanks to their sheer health pool. No mage gets through 4k+hp and resists and the current meta is heavy aoe damage CC tanks that auto win lane vs bruisers anyway lol. its not making sense for mage players to want Jax to remain trash

You are right but the people on the boards don't understand the game.

The boards hate bruisers for some reason

Jax is garbage and yet everyone will be fine about it. It's totally uncool for bruisers, the most bread-and-butter class of LoL, to be viable. Everyone just want to play Assassins or Carries for big LCS plays, anything that gets in the way is unacceptable.

He's even worse in the jungle, and does need a lot of help.

Some give this man a medal for some common sense

Jax is a very complicated Champion to balance, one tweak too far to the right and he becomes an unstoppable menace, so hotfixing him is hard.

He'll most likely be reworked sometime in the future.

ToastXYZ1 votes

He isn't, he just needs to fit his thematic of bad early, amazing late, which means needing at a complete damage item before being able to fight a 1v1, and 2-3 damage items and some tank before being able to carry late, the guinsoo price increase was a good idea but the item just takes to long to stack for a melee, jax doesn't need a rework, he just needs his items tuned, and maybe, maybe, a small buff to his W like the aoe the OP suggested

Maximum Morde1 votes

Only if it's a skin specific buff to the Mighty Jax and he learns to do the flying V or some shit. Otherwise he just needs to go back to making pizzas with his spinning skills cause he's not good enough for da league.
