Role Limitation: How Ascension Can Fix A Problem

Dear Riot,

I just wanted to voice a tiny issue I've been having with League ever since you deleted Dominion.

Admittedly, my play style is probably that in the minority of your players. (Most of the people who read this post will likely not be experiencing this issue whatsoever; I have no illusions about that.) I don't really have a 'role'. Rather I like individual champions just because they can feel good to play. Take one of my personal favorites here for a moment.

Vi

When she's on equal footing, it feels thrilling to dart in, knock some players around, maybe pick up a kill or two if all things go according to plan. There's just ooooone itty bitty little problem...

I can't jungle.

Like, at all.

I joined LoL I wanna say...S2-S3-ish? I played a few games of SR, old TT, then pretty much hopped on the Dom train and never got off except to play some ARAM here or there. So I probably have less experience with SR mechanics than even a Level 20 player account.

You have many champions like Vi who are completely pigeonholed into singular role on the SR/TT maps.

If you can't do the jungle, you can't play a jungler. If you can't do the jungle well, you fall behind in levels, items, and pretty much feel even more powerless than the support.

While true, I could spend weeks/months researching and practicing SR to make up for lost time...the mode honestly just has very little appeal to me. ^^; When given the option between SR or no LoL my log in records will show I am quite content simply to not play.

However...you have a solution for people with problems like mine.

Ascension.

It's basically the sandbox mode people always hound you about. Equal levels, equal gold, extremely high champion variety (so long as you don't main Teemo or Shaco you're bound to get in a few games as your favorite pretty easily); and most importantly, no roles.

Why not yank Ascension off the RGM queue and bring it on full time?

RGM itself does not correct the problem. As there are some modes that suffer from either the same SR problems, highly limited champion viability, or just outright hard-locking champion selection options for solo players due to the Majority Rule.

You already have gone on the record and stated you're full on abandoning balancing support for alternative modes. So it's not like you'll have to allocate any Live team members to tinker with the mode, or have the problem of champions functioning differently across maps.

I know odds are in favor of no. But I at least wanted to ask once. In case you even read this before it gets buried, thank you kindly. ^_^

It'd be great to (once again) be able to play champions without having to worry about positions, but Riot doesn't seem to even notice/think that it's an issue at all. Moreover, with that balancing removal announcement, Riot seems increasingly intent on killing everything in League besides SR, so adding a new permanent mode seems that much more unlikely.

We're like complete opposites as I hate laning and feel like I only make an impact on SR/TT if I'm jungling or mid, where I actually have freedom to roam/gank. I wouldn't mind Ascension being permanent if we're never getting Dominion back. I like Crystal Scar maps more because you're constantly on the move, plus you can win games without really fighting anyone.
