If they have never played, they are more likely to listen to someone who has played. Be the leader.
That is more than likely because you are in an elo that riot tests people doing their provisionals to see if they should raise the bar. From my experience most of the people I have seen have been placed in mid-upper bronze from their initial placements. Sadly it is just something that riot has decided to do.
