This happens way to much in gold elo then it should. I'm not picking on gold players, but it's just a recurrence.

Considering you play Yi and lose the large majority of games you aren't significantly ahead in...I'm going to assume that you don't know when split pushing is and is not the correct thing to do.
If someone is splitting in that scenario, its very likely that you guys would have lost the inevitable teamfight anyway. Getting something for them taking a tower/inhib is better than nothing. As long as the 4 people in base aren't stupid enough to engage, its a fairly good trade, especially since the one split-pushing has a fair chance of taking an inhib of their own.
I do have to say I have yet to see a good split when the enemy is in the base. Last time in fact, the adc and mid laner got jumped on out side of the base, so it was only me (the support) and the semi afk top lane =u=.
Jungler: Hold the base while I take the two top towers. =u= yep.
EDIT: this jungler had a gold 3 border, yet placed in bronze 3 >.<
