Discouraged with Being Supp Main

So, it's not that I hate the support role. I like it and I am good at it, but lately it is so frustrating to play. If I get into a game as support, many teams rely on the support to go tanky. This is frustrating because we need to build sightstone and team building items before we go full tank. It is unlikely to help, especially early game. We may not even be able to peel in the end. If I take a break from support and go another role on the map because I'm nearly always autofill protected, someone usually says, "Oh, I can't play support," in ranked. I'm not sure about what's so hard about learning every role on the map in case you get filled. Someone may not be good at a certain role on the map and can trade, but it's like support mains feel compelled to take the support role to win a game.

Not only that, but if we go another role on the map to enjoy the game like mid or top, it seems that the support messes up so bad that bot lane loses and pushes their way through other lanes resulting in a big loss for the team. On top of that, most people blame the support for just about everything: Not getting the adc kills, not getting enough cs, not being aggressive enough, not playing safe enough, using too much mana, feeding when we are only taking damage for our adc, and the list goes on and on and on.

I can say support main has been pretty fun, but over the last few months it's the worst position on the map to play. It is by far the most discouraging and least rewarding position to play these days. Hopefully the supp role revamp will help things along, but the trolling is real...It's not a wonder why you don't see many support mains.

Never had this happen to me any more than any other role

As a Support main, I've been focussing on jungling a lot, but I don't stray away from the champions I want to play. I play a lot of Galio Jungle, with the idea that I can still perform my Warden-esque playstyle if needed. Support mains aren't appreciated, because there are multiple opinions about them. On one hand, it's an easy role to learn, but a hard one to master. You have to play in on your AD and the opponent's lane. You need to know if the enemy AD is more oppressive than yours, or vice versa. Support isn't that much about playmaking (though it does help :P), but more about decisionmaking.

For your point that people expect you to go tank, keep in mind that when you go tanky, you can still get heaps of utility worked in. Being a tank doesn't mean that your only job is to be one. As a Thresh, you're one of the most effective peelers in the game. As a Blitz, a good hook can make or break a fight. Alistar allows for zoning and sustain, even if the enemy AD is more oppressive earlygame than you etc.

In this state of the game, I agree that Support isn't as fun to play as it was before (Not to blame my premade AD who gets tilted off of earlygame Marksmen against him), but I don't think it's a bad role in general. What if you'd have a 4v4, where the supports wouldn't be in the game? What would all those AD Carries do against assassins if their precious support wasn't there for them?

I am having the time of my life as support. You know what made all the difference? I stopped playing ranked (about 2 months ago I think). I got placed silver last year, so I have my non-red border. I am never going to be good enough to be pro, so other than a possible diff color border and an end of season skin reward (prob for a champ I don't play anyway), ranked is over-rated really.

I would stress every ranked game and it wasn't fun especially when shenanigans cost you a win (which is often as we all know). So one day after being demoted after only 1 game at 0LP, I decided I was done with ranked. Best thing I've done in this game...besides buying the Drag Sorc Zyra skin (that thing is niiiice).

Mute also comes in handy. SO armed with no stress, I find I play better and even if a game goes bad, I don't worry about it. Most of the time in bad games, I am still personally doing fine, which also makes things not as bad. Eh, we lost...I was still 2-2-10..not bad.
