The problem isn't with MR, the problem is with champions like Diana and Ryze that just have too much damage. Mages still get hard countered by it.

ap assassins dont count. they have by far the highest burst in the game. diana and fizz both need a sheen and they can jump and fuck you. same for eve.

i think mr is actually the only defensive option that does something. dot mages like cass, malz, anivia are supposed to drain you down over time.
but poke mages like lux xerath ziggs do almost nothing vs a 200 mr tank.
the problem is: noone plays those poke mages (maybe in bot) so yeah mr isnt as useful
The problem is there's only like...a small handful of viable MR items in the game. If you're a tank you basically have Spirit Visage, Merc Treads, and Adaptive helm...that's it. You would probably have to double the amount of MR on each of these items to make them actually tanky against a fed mage.

Third match as of now, same time frame as OP's post, one full MR item and mercs against a full build Diana who dropped boots for another full AP item.
When will posting bullshit posts and lying on the boards become a bannable offense mods? Garbage like this hurts the board more than name-calling ever did.
It really depends. I feel like MR makes some mages useless, but does nothing to others. MR means nothing to mages with high DPS like Cass, Ryze, and champs that build Liandry's Torment*, but good luck if you're playing something like Lux or Ekko.

MR is about as useless as Armor. If you wanted to inccrease the usefulness of defensive abilities you need to look at Penetration and Lethality. Doesnt really help that we are also in an Assassin Meta as well(the worst kinds of metas).
It's useless to stack against void staff, but very strong early. Not useless, but still shitty balance.
