How do you decide which items in the shop to buy after backing? What is the correct buy order?

One of the problems I have is trying to purchase high value items, should I pre-game my build or adjust it to the situation?

For example, say I'm playing ADC (I main ADC) and I have to base because I am super low health+mana. I have 1200 gold. It's my first B.

Should I stay an extra minute or so to gain the gold needed for a item 1038 or should I just buy a item 1042 item 3673 item 1036 item 2055 ?

Should I buy item 1038 or should I turn item 1042 item 1051 into item 3086 ?

I am so confused on this part, one game I have 2 BFs another game I don't have enough for a BF so I don't dish out a lot of damage and lose trades. If anyone can point me in the correct direction, that would be great!

(Bronze 1 btw)

When it comes to laning as AD, prioritize raw AD over attack speed. When you trade in lane, raw AD beats attack speed unless the trade lasts a certain amount of time, so the value you get from BF sword is far greater than you’d get from 2 Long Swords and 2 Daggers while in lane

Unless you’re playing an ADC that builds Blade of the Ruined King (Lucian), you should aim to back at 1300g. Otherwise, order of priority is BF > Long Sword > Bootd > Dagger > Control Ward > Brawler Glove

To add onto S V's commentary, it is very situational based on champ you are using, what the enemy is using, along with how well you are doing vs how the enemy is doing, how your mana and health are looking, etc. If the enemy bott just backed and enemy mid is still in mid, generally unless you are low and they are a warwick or rengar... the jungler wont bother with you until their bott lane comes back. This means generally you have 20 secondsish to make a choice to back up or finish the wave under their tower before backing up.

You can track enemy minion wave moments by watching your own minion wave for the majority of the early and mid game to help base your choice of stay or go as well.

While BF sword does give some good damage, depending on how you plan on building, and what some of the key power spikes for your character is.... a pickaxe and some boots and pots or something could be a better bet than a bf sword. But in the end it is a situation by situation answer that not all the time will it be the right answer.

Practice, learning the different matchups, and keeping an eye on the minimap for enemy jungler or mid laner are all good things to keep in mind when it comes to the "should i stay or should i go" question.

Hiya, this is a good question. I looked a little into your profile and here's my opinion for your current situation. Although I hate StormRazor :

  1. Rush the StormRazor and don't stop to buy life steal. In buying LifeSteal that early, you're sacrificing possible damage you could have purchased with that 900 Gold such as a pickaxe that goes into your Infinity Edge. Yes, you may have survived a fight because of it, but you're missing out on the damage you could have killed the enemies in the time it took for them to get you that low in the first place. [Kill them faster than they can kill you] OF course it's conditional based on what ADC you're playing such as Vayne that actually does rush BOTRK versus Cait and Trist that rush StormRazor.

  2. It looks like you need to focus on more on the Low CS per minute. Practice last hitting if need be in custom games with the adc/champion you would like to play. By last hitting more often, you won't be put in this situation because you'll have the gold at the time.

  3. If you have 1200 gold then it's situational. If the wave is on their side and the jungler is unseen on the map, that forces you to be put in a risky position for 100 extra gold. Don't do that. If the wave is in the middle or on your side, clear ASAP and back for the item.

If you get to back with 1200 gold i’d say buy either pickaxe or two long swords and boots. Your primary goal is to farm minions and stay alive - the damage will help you fight back whwn attacked, but should not be relied upon to attack others. ADCs are VERY weak right now.

On champions like Vayne, Lucian or Ashe, you might want to buy Vampiric scepter and wait around for enough gold for a long sword.

On Lethality Miss fortune, buy as many long swords as you can. Caulfield’s warhammer is neat too but i prefer 3 long swords and a refillable hp potion.

On any adc you intend to buy infinity edge on down the line, pickaxe.

On adcs you like to buy Stormrazor on, two long swords and a dagger OR two long swords and boots depending on how you’re doing in lane. The boots will help you stay alive and are always a priority if you have a hard time avoiding enemy spells or the enemy adc is stronger than you.

Against Dravens that attack you a lot, two long swords and a cloth armor can help you endure until you get more gold.

You can add my account on NA «Extra Yukeh» if you would like to ask questions or more specialized advice. In that case i’ll respond after i return from my vacation/holiday in the US.

It highly depends on what you need.

Lets say you play Kaisa: A BF sword is all nice and good but to trigger that passive you also need attack speed. But depending on your support you could still go for a BF sword if you wanna burst the enemy laner real quick.

My favourite example though is Draven: Depending on his matchups/supports he either goes BT or another ADC item. The sustain on BT makes him unkillable and he still has a lot of damage and AS from his axe and W.

If you play against lane bullies always go for some early sustain so you can actually play the game lol (farming against zyra is a pain in the ass)

If your champ has build in AS roids or AA cancels (lucian passive, tris Q, jinx Q etc) go straight for the AD. You can easily compensate the "lost" AS with some mechanical skill.

For your example: If you have to b just go b and get long swords and AS to get stormrazors. Sometimes a mix out of both benefits your champ more (vayne, kaisa as examples).

If you're doing well in lane ( 1300+ Gold ): item 1038 and maybe a item 2003.

If you're doing "Just Okay" ( 1000 - 1250 range ): item 1037 item 1001 item 2055 item 2003

If you're behind on gold ( Sub 1000 ): item 1036 item 1036

Generally, you want to get as much AD as possible at that time without sacrificing safety and your ability to farm. Do keep in mind that you're going to want to get Control Wards as well since it helps keep the map less dark. Depending on the ADC as well, you'll want to prioritize other stats like Lethality if playing MissFortune Lucian Jhin since two of them heavily benefit from items like item 3147 item 3142 item 3071.

Just don't, and I repeat, don't fall for the newb trap that is Ashe's passive. All it does is increase your autos based on a flat amount from your critical strike chance. You do not benefit from that stuff the same way Sivir Twitch Tristana Jinx do.

If you're playing an on-hit ADC like Kaisa Varus KogMaw Vayne getting item 1043 first can be beneficial as well since you have mechanics in the kit that will help stack onto that damage.

Just my opinion, mind.

As an ADC, when you back with 1200 gold, I usually buy two long swords and boots. Its greedy but I like having the extra AD. It means you win more trades and all ins. So that's 350+350+300=1000. You're left to get a refillable(150) which is super gold efficient compared to potions. Or if you're getting camped, you can opt for just a regular pot and pink ward(50+75=125). Its just personal preference.
