Because back then if you won lane, you could use your advantage against the enemy. But if you win lane with the current meta, it doesnt matter because everyone does insane damage. Thus you winning lane doesnt matter.

Has nothing to do with game length.

Also any champion that won lane is twice as impactful as one that lost lane.
