Ryze Why So Sad?

Ryze was my main man for years. We're talking since before season 2 ever started. He's been my boy for through all the ups (10% mana scale on his q now that was fun) and downs, and well I am just sad about this new Ryze.

I'm sad because the one character that hardly anyone played or plays except the loyal few (or the ones that decided it after watching the pros) got this weird new kit. : last look at LoL graphs said he had a popularity of 2.2% and a win rate of 47% with kda average of 6.2/6.3/7.4 Its like what happened to the USSR. They were a big bad bear that had everyone scared, then people had to go and reform stuff and it falls apart making a very nice teddy bear.

And he even just came out with the new kit so this is him on a good day i suspect. (probs not the kda since everyones trying not to feed with the new kit)

To get to the point I'm sad because I'll never be able to play the old Ryze that was my main man. I would rather a had a reasonable rework like with viegar, buff to the q with the range and just hit his mana scales. And this is because the new Ryze plays nothing like the old one. With the weird split in ap ratios and mana scales you dont have a clear choice what to build. What just go full ap (ludens echo) like every other character and use the mana as a perk, or tankish and hope that you might actually do some dmg. I just feel Riot is trying way to hard to make every character unique and fun. And that they are losing sight about what made their original character so likable.

Now what do yall think of this?

In regards to Ryze, I personally love the new update to him. Does it suck that q is now a skillshot? Ya. a little bit. But it is not a difficult skill shot and I believe that it's damage received a bit of a boost. I personally think that this is the one champ that actually had improvement done to it.

Theres the scales but with his new passive if you dont time your stacks right in a trade you lose your cdr and just get to stand there while the enemy laner kills you. Unless you initiate it there is no longer any successful trading with ryze. One of the easiest champs to gank just got easier to gank!

Riots line on these changes was "if we give him more counterplay, we can make his stronger." But he didn't really get any stronger in exchange for that counter play. Now your windows of power are telegraphed by a big ring around your feet and only last 4-6 seconds. Your Q and E are never good at the same time, and even when you hit a full combo you don't do enough damage that you feel great about it.

Even with all that it's not the loss of power that makes me sad, or the lowest-in-game winrate, but the loss of identity. Nerfed mana ratios mean he no longer gets good damage from tanky items with mana on them. Without tankyness, he won't be able to survive long enough to deliver his sustained damage, so they'll have to increase his burst in order to make him viable. Increased AP ratios encourage him to build exactly the same as every other AP champ. He used to be this cool, unique, niche champ; and now they're moving him toward being just another AP assassin.

Assuming this is the direction they want to go with him and that he remains UP as people get used to playing him, here are the kind of buffs I'l like to see on Ryze: Increased duration of passive and increased time before stacks fall off, increased shield strength, and trade the CDR on his ult for tenacity.
