Okay so Why doesn't Grounded work on Riven's Q?

RaptorKarr··111 votes·5,594 views

Is that not considered a Movement based attack? The only reason I ask this is because i'v been able to Q out of Miasma before, or maybe it does effect Q and i'v already been in the process of moving with Q by the time the Miasma was around me, which would be crazy convenient if that has happened every single time.

Or it's a bug, which is more likely

Riven main here, almost at 300K mastery points. I tested it on PBE at the request of the /r/Rivenmains group and it blocked the spell then, so I would guess it to be a bug. I'll try to run another test today on Live if I get the time.

At least it doesn't have a hard CC attached like that stupid Poppy W.

lmao. riven main indeed.

Come on now, it's been a rough season for them.

LordGeovanni

It has? With the mass nerf on tank items every patch or 2.

IcyPepper3 votes

She's rising back to being in charge, but earlier this season was... rough.

A lot of the Riven hate dropped because we felt bad about it. Wait a few patches, she's in a good spot atm, and we'll go back to hating her or whatever.

So?

Don't make fun of poppy she doesn't know better.

At least Poppy W only stops 1 Q and even then you can just break it with E so you get all 3 Qs.

ProfDrDeath1 votes

Tested it. For me, it does not work on live.

Champion Skin11 votes

Jarvan can actually E-Q while snared (probably grounded too) because neither his E nor his Q is classified as a movement ability

Kalarepa6 votes

All those little things, add blinks on top of that and suddenly half of the champions don't give a crap about "grounded" status. It's kinda like champions with knock ups don't care about your tenacity. Riot's design is weird.

Steelflame3 votes

Actually, Jarvan has been unique in being one of the only champions who could actually break out of immobility spells for a long time. Other champions could use cast animations to potentially keep going if timed right, but Jarvan alone can react after the hit to break out of it (Well, at least, move a few feet).

But, it does prevent blinks as well, doesn't it?

RaptorKarr3 votes

It should

Rubber Jesus1 votes

I noticed this as well in one for all. Hit 3 jarvans and they just slide away.

Tesrac8 votes

I noticed that's Amumu can use his bandage toss inside her W also.

Erablier1 votes

Me too, which is completely unfair

Tesrac1 votes

Nothing they did to her kit was fair :(

Atanchan1 votes

Well, it's not primarily a movement spell. It's a skillshot stun with a movement component to that.

That said, I could really see Grounded not only silencing movement spells, but also suppressing movement components like this one and Jarvan's poledash. Or not silencing at all, but doing the suppression so, say, Riven could still dash to get her shield or Q to deal damage but she won't go anywhere with it.

All that said, it makes sense that this is how it works right now; after all, it just silences movement spells. So if there's a spell that moves you but you can't really call a movement spell, it makes sense that it wouldn't be silenced by Grounded.

Tesrac1 votes

That just makes it worse since the whole grounded thing is supposed to be there to prevent enemies from closing on you, Cassie dies way too easily for her to only have a half asses way to interfere with ganks and assassins.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

poppy w blocks it. its a movement ability

Atanchan2 votes

No, Poppy W blocks self-movement with travel time. It doesn't require the ability to be an actual movement ability, just for an ability to cause the champion to move itself.

Champion Skin1 votes

Also Poppy W doesnt work on CC immune targets like Malphite when he ults or anyone with Morgana black shield as Poppy W stops dashes with a small knock up (or was it knock back)

Champion Skin1 votes

Poppy W is different... Poppy W is like Azir wall it stops enemy dashes with a short knock up... However they cant stop blinks like flash or Kassadin Riftwalk the reason for this is that blinks instantly transports the champion with no travel time which means they cant be stopped by knock ups or knock backs like Poppy W or Azir wall

However as they are classified as movement abilities they cant be cast while snared or grounded

AquariusGine3 votes

Oh lol, and I thought my miasma was just really slow

Riven using Q and E 100% of the time that game in my W.. was quite fishy

PikaCHU5672 votes

Riven's Q is considered a dash. I think it's a bug.

ImmortalBloodCY2 votes

There have been alot of abilities that were missed to be affected by grounded debuff.

I guess they didn't classify the abilities that are movement type.

kunkudunk1 votes

I've had shen e through the cass w but yasuo e get stopped by the w mid animation, I'm honestly not sure how it is supposed to work at this point.

Decrit1 votes

It does not let you cast abilities, but does not block those who are already in flight. A shen can dash throught the miasma, as long as he stands outside unaffected before casting.

Hellpyre4 votes

To add on to this, Yasuo's dash specifically is coded to stop when he is CC'ed, which makes it behave differently than other dashes in a lot of situations.

kunkudunk1 votes

Ah thank you for the clarification.

Honestly after seeing Cass's Miasma at work, I feel it could use some changes. I seem to watch enemies get right out of the area all the time with little to no trouble, then use whatever movement ability they couldn't use before to get away, making the point of the grounding a bit moot. I mean, maybe I just haven't seen someone use it to it's fullest yet or seen it vs a champ that relies heavily on movement abilities, but so far it looks a lot more lackluster than I thought it would be.

RaptorKarr2 votes

Well I know for a fact that it can't stop dashes if you are already dashing, unless you're Yasuo

Blue Moon Wolf1 votes

I kinda feel like it should stop dashes as soon as you hit the area. like you dash up to the edge of the grounding area, cancels the rest of the movement and keeps you from using any other movement abilities till you leave it. Or would that be a bit much?

RaptorKarr1 votes

Roots don't work like that, unless you're Yasuo, so that might be Riot's view on it

Karn Bishop1 votes

Remember the last time they tried to touch riven? it is one of the only times where an "experimental" change was not rammed down a champion mains throats.

should be explanation enough.

RaptorKarr4 votes

Thats because it would have made her the most OP champion EVER!

Karn Bishop1 votes

Actually it was removed because the mechanic would have made Riven easily balanced on the fly which greatly upset riven mains and well there are a lot of angry riven and lee mains out there so they caved.

RaptorKarr6 votes

God you are the single dumbest person ever you have no idea what the Riven Edge could even do, do you?A Riven with full edge could one shot a full health MUNDO

Karn Bishop1 votes

So riven mains got upset about the change because... it made their champion stronger?? you must have some quality drugs on hand.

RaptorKarr4 votes

It made her so boring to play, it WAS WAY to easy to dominate an entire game with little to no effort, i'm all for Riven buffs but that is NOT how you buff a champion

Nisaki1 votes

Look into the changes, it's quite funny how crazy they were. With some number tweaks, and bearing in mind that Last Whisper has changed, it could work now I think.

BluePolarizer1 votes

Plenty of people get upset if their champ gets buffed. Do you think Malzahar mains are having fun with Malz now being permaban and them never getting to play their champ in more serious modes like ranked or draft norms?

Serpents Embrace1 votes

Because Cassiopeia's rework was meant to make her unplayable.

Duh.
