Serious question about placement matches and tiers

Hi, I'm only level 11, but I've been reading the boards since I started playing the game a bit ago. All the discussion about getting bad results even when players appear to win most of their matches..... can anyone tell me what to expect and anything I can do to make sure I get a good placement? I'm still fuzzy on how I'll be placed as a new player just starting in ranked and would appreciate any advice you guys can provide me with!

cheers,

Hello Cursed Aegis! Welcome to league of legends! First off there are a few things you should know about League of Legends.

  1. Ranking is based on a 10 game placement series depending on your placements determines your rank and then you can either climb the ranking ladder or go down.
  2. To climb the ladder you win games and gain LP (League Points) Gaining league points is essential because once you hit 100 League Points you go into promotional Series.
  3. Promotional Series are a best of 3 for tier and best of 5 for division. Tiers are subranking within a division. There are 5 tiers to each division and go up from 5
  4. Losing games cost you LP, depending on your MMR (Match Making Rating) determines how much LP you gain and lose, but the only catch is your MMR is hidden. You can use Lolking.net to get a rough idea of where you are.
  5. Going up in ranking you will meet people who are of higher skill levels and each division. One thing that is important to remember is riot puts you where you are deserving. If you aren't playing well and carrying (Having the highest impact on the game) then you don't deserve to hop too high.
  6. It is advised that you take some time to get to know league of legends a little bit better before you play placement games, win a few games and have a champion pool. Each position you should have 2-3 champions that you are pretty strong with.

Thank you for the response. Is the mmr/ranking dependent on just winning, or is KDA also part of how they calculate where I'll be placed after the matches?

Thanks for the extra info! I ws worried my KDA would be an issue since all the people I'm playing matches with are focused on their amount of kills and not taking objectives. I'm getting a lot of backlash because I'd rather push an empty lane or take a turret instead of chasing someone across the map for a kill.
