Ekko and the Assassin update

I am an ekko main with quite a few games on ekko. I've played through his highs and his lows but something I can't get on board with is tank ekko. I agree completely with how you treated that situation. But with all honesty ap assassin ekko needs some love and I think i stumbled upon a great Idea.

So what if he could control when his q comes back but with a condition so he cant simply spam minion waves or jungle camps. You can condition his q so that after hitting a champion he can make it come back Idk how many times kills and my way of escaping have slipped through my fingers because that q doesn't hit fast enough.

IMO, the delay of his Q is an important part of his kit.

According to your suggestion, if Ekko lands the first part of his Q (which is pretty much guaranteed if he uses his E), he can get it back instantaneously. This would make him just like the typical assassin or burst mage who can unload their damage in the space of one second, which is not what Ekko is supposed to be (his play style is more of a diver like Nocturne). People also need time to try and avoid the boomerang effect, which is what makes skirmishes with Ekko interesting.

Riot has stated that it is intending to enlarge the window that people have to react to assassins in the coming update; Ekko is a good example of a bursty champ that still gives small opportunities for counterplay.

i was thinking about that the otherday, but i think the increased burst damage combined with the slow and his passive might be too much to handle. The forced delay Q allows for some counterplay which is what they are wanting to keep and spread to other assassins in various ways

I completely agree that if they want to make Ekko an assassin, they have to make him more reliable to play and that includes making his Q easier to land. At first I thought it was me sucking but then after watching high elo players, it's just not something you'll ever land if they're not hard CCed or you're tanky enough to run circles around them (which doesn't apply to the assassin playstyle). The best way to do this would be to lower the duration it "drifts" before returning back to you, or like you suggested they can make it something like Ahri's Q by making it controllable.

Another way to promote his AP playstyle over tank is to scrap his percent missing health damage (something the community seems to really, really, want) in favor of flat on-hit damage that increases based on missing health. So instead of missing health it could look something like... 10 + 20% AP, increased by 1% per 1% of the target's missing health up to a maximum of 20 + 40% AP.

But see in my opinion ekko us an assasin not a diver like nocturne. And even then countless times have i been cc'd b4 i can even throw a q on a target not even including the other split second it takes for the q to even be able to come back let alone actually making it come back. Even when giving you can also take. When you do decide to call back the q it loses its slow maybe even some dmg that would allow for ekko to get the burst of speed he would need to get away from a possibly dead target and allies or even just out maneuver his lane opponents with skill shots. Riot themselves have stated they dont support this fighter type ekko and thats why they have nerfed his base dmg while amping up his ratios time and time again.
