Did MMR Reset for 2016?

So I started playing today, happy to get started with my nice 4 day weekend, and I started to notice a trend in my games. I main ADC. I was checking out players borders as we were going into game and noticed I was getting paired with some golds and platinums. I am currently Silver 2, not a fantastic player, but working at improving. After a horrible loss, I would check each summoner from game and their season 5 rankings. I noticed a span of teammates at Bronze 3 to enemies ranked at Plat 2. I went 0-4 in the day, probably got plenty of reports for my feeding boosted plat supp (he admitted and even boasted about buying his boosted profile.) So my question is, with the new year has LoL completely trashed our old MMR rankings and put us up against anybody? Or is something strange happening just today?
