Why do the PROJECT minions have to be around for 5.17 and 5.18 only?

According to Riot, the PROJECT minions that can be unlocked by having enough PROJECT skins on your team will be available for patches 5.17 & 5.18 only. A group of my friends have already decided that we'll be purchasing all 5 of the skins, and the icons to go with them. I've asked all of them, and they've all said that they'd want to keep the PROJECT minions around for when we use the skins. So why can't we keep the minions? Why does this have to be removed after two patches? It can only be accessed by using the skins, so what's the problem here?

not only project minions. but the butchers bridge map skin, when there are 2 or more pirate skins on aram.

i dont know why theyre making all these resources and then essentially wasting them by putting them back on the shelve.

Honestly, I was considering buying first strike Leona and the icon so that I'd see these guys from time to time, but seeing that the minions are only going to be available for 2 patches changed my mind on both purchases. I haven't seen or thought of one good argument for why these should be a limited time feature.

Don't expect them to keep an event around for long or to revisit one.

Because for some genius (I'm sure) reason that we just aren't smart enough to understand, Riot thinks it's a good idea to make stuff... And then just take it away. Maybe one day a Red will show up and dumb their logic down for us stupid folk. They won't, but it could happen.

Rito... let us have the special minions for ALL skin sets! The old Snowdown minions, Pool Party, PROJECT, any future skin sets?

Can this just be a feature for the premade 5s to enjoy? I know how much you love getting players to make premade 5s!

I think the overall goal is to have many events one after another so that you can have something special every month or two. If those Project: minions would be permanent you would not feel anything special after some time while you will feel really awesome next time they will be enabled and you probably will play them as much as you can.

Few seasons ago 2-3 events per year where max, now we are going for 5 or 6? That's huge!

As long as they reuse the content for fun events on weekends or something, I'm okay with release and disappearance of this kind of content. That said, if they don't bring it back around on an at least semi-frequent basis, then I think they need to look into what exactly they gain from that other than confused/angry fans.

Because skin advantage.

The differences in model sizes, however slight, can obscure parts of gameplay for only one of the teams and it could cause balance issues.
