Preseason Ranked Play

Hey! So I've read a number of threads regarding playing ranked in the preseason and fully understand that these games can result in higher MMR for the next season (which 'may' help with placements for the new season). So, to pose my question, I'm in Gold 5 and hoping to climb higher next season. If I were to get, say... a two-division climb to Gold 3, would that be a big enough jump to help me out with placements next season? I guess I'm just curious if I should do ranked or just spam ARAM and unintentionally feed as AP Nasus.

From what I notice, all players MMR drops more less by one league. It happen to me last season, i won 6or7 of 10 and went one league down.

For people wanting to climb, is it better to keep playing ranked during the pre-season? Ive been avoiding it but I feel I should probably keep playing it... thoughts?
