This can happen in Ranked with regular players. I have seen it on a daily basis.

I assure you that players don't group as 5 in front of a super fed MF in elos higher than bronze.

People do plenty of stupid things and MF can be quite strong in the right hands, but it's balanced around it being unlikely that all 5 members of the enemy team will be in it for the full duration. Wombo with some other stuff (say...an ashe ult) and you can melt single targets, but otherwise people will simply move out of it.
