Ranked matchmaking + this season + the support role

Hello everyone ! I make this post because I found it very hard to climb out of gold compared to previous seasons. The last 2 seasons I went to plat without any major difficulties but now I failed 3 times in a row the promos. As far as I know they changed the matchmaking only in NA servers, but still it feels very different. This is my match history -> Link I am doing my best lately and what bothers me is that I see the enemy is not good at all. I barely lose my lane and when lane phase is over in 90% of the cases my adc is more fed , better farmed, got kills and etc. Almost always 2 of the other lanes fail to stay alive for the most of the time. You can carefully view my previous games and see that most of the time I am the best performer for our team, and I feel it , I see it and my team see that too. However I am stuck in gold.

I want to ask about something. I am at gold 1 now but when playing I face from gold 1 to plat 1. I know my MMR is higher but its kinda messy to me that I am at gold but playing in higher ELO and trying to climb to that level of play. Also the support role is the least influential of all roles. The struggle to become MVP or take the ACE for the team is really tilting at times. For the first time for a very long time I went to negative win ratio. My last season games at plat 2-3 were easier playing the same champ at almost same conditions. I suppose that the system somehow detects that I am a good player and try to compensate that but like I said climbing as support is not the same as being a good lets say top laner for instance.

What happened ?

Lux support is also... eh... Idk why people play it honestly.

Also, HARD disagree on this--

" the support role is the least influential of all roles."

Supports can often control how bot lane goes, and roaming/warding gives you a lot of map influence and is super important.

"climbing as support is not the same as being a good lets say top laner for instance."

You can make it that way if you play carry supports like Thresh or Blitzcrank. Yeah you're probably not going to do a ton of carrying from Lux support. But Thresh and Blitz are great playmakers, I see you've played blitz a bit so maybe focus more on playing him and roaming to get mid ahead as well as bot? If you're dead set on a mage at least pick up like a Vel'koz. He does stupid amounts of poke for little mana and will probably be more relevant.

Lux support is fine for climbing to a certain point. At plat 4-3 and above i switch my main to Blitzcrank (I cant say really who is my main between these two). At gold I find him useless when the game is going in bad direction. If we win - we win hard but if we lose it doesnt matter that I did the perfect grab, the team just cant take advantage of it. This is one of the reason I play some damage support.

Like I said - I control how the bot lane will go out. 90% of the time we win the lane, and my adc is ahead, With lux the roaming to mid is easier because my ult can decide battles that are far away (junglers fight, mid fight and etc).

I guess Vel'koz is good but i prefer to stick to more supportive style of play damage/playmaking. Vel deals really tons of damage but his CC is unreliable which i found is the core of my style of play.

I understand that you think that my lux pick is garbage but like i said I went to plat playing exactly this champ. Also back then it was harder to play lux because you couldnt build some damage because first item was sightstone , now is a quest.

I really dont want to pin out the lux pros but I will do it: Q - great 2 man binding, this is the most important skill, It offers escapes, kills and can isolate enemy champs in teamfights W - great mass shield, shines in teamfigts (combined with lol cd's can decide the outcome) E - great poke ability, grants vision to places where is needed. R - burst the enemy , kill escaping enemies, decide long distance battles

Lux Q + E + R + passive combo - wipes out 2/3 ot the enemy adc health. Thats common knowledge.

But really I guess thats its all my fault. Maybe you are right. But still I just cant believe it.

Also my last 10 game I have 6 loses and 4 wins In 5 of this 6 loses I receive the ACE rating in 2 of this 4 wins I receive the MVP rating

I know stats are not everything but they tell us something dont they ?
