A request for fellow East Coasters/Disconnectors
With Kalista on the horizon, along with her prospective Soulbound ally synergy, I'd like to ask all my fellow EC players (and those who also have iffy connections to Riot's servers) to willingly swap to playing Support when someone picks her on your team (outside ranked only, if you prefer, I'm not asking anyone to bomb their stats, even during the preseason).
In doing this, I hope we can show Riot (and the rest of the community) how pants on head retarded her current paradigm is, namely being unable to pick a new ally to Soulbind.
Riot, in their grand wisdom/stupidity, have decided it's just fine for a team who has a disconnect to play 3.5 v 5 instead of 4 v 5 if Kalista loses her Soulbound to lag or crashing. Kalista will be out of a teammate anyway, but she'll also lose the bonus damage from her W (I'm fine with that, honestly), and completely out of an Ultimate (her only form of CC).
Being down a teammate is bad, but workable. Honestly, I work harder when I disconnect or there's a crasher on my team. I'd be shocked if I had less than a 35% win rate in games when someone else on me team is having a bad connection.
But you know what roll tends to go to the person who crashes the most? Support.
Which is who Riot says would be best for Kalistas (Kalistae? Kalistii? Kalistians?) to Soulbind.
It then comes down to three endings. If Kalista is still good without her SB, she'd be too good with one, and we'd have another release Draven or Jinx. If she is severely hampered sans SB, not only will the team hate Kalista for being dead weight (compared to other choices they could of brought), but the SB who crashed is definitely getting reported for giving an auto-loss to their team simply for Queuing with them. Or lastly, her R is either largely unsatisfying (either due to limited communication in SoloQ) or the gains one would get for using it are so minimal she's essentially out of an R for most cases/games anyway, and that's bad design regardless.
I'm not mad that Riot thought the game could use a system like this; what with so many people clamoring for unique kits, it was bound to happen. I'm peeved that they feel the inability to re-pick the SB is a justifiable caveat because the access and availability of such a unique and showstopping ability makes up for it (and we can see similar thoughts behind the Skarner and Cass reworks). This is part and parcel for Riot's current design philosophy it seems.
So, again, I ask my fellow East Coasters, high pingers, and disconnectors (as well as anyone willing to burn a smurf to prove a point) to support for every Kalista you can. Only with an increased cry from the community can we change her kit to not suck for everyone on her team when down a Soulbound. I would not have made this thread if it wasn't apparent from on high in Riot that this is what they chose for her.
