What ever happened to achievements in LoL?

This is one of those things that a lot of people may not remember or may not have been around for but, a while back Riot was planning on bringing out achievements in game and even had a tab that was in the client. They may have addressed this but I have no recollection of reading/hearing anything about it. Does anyone have any insight into what happened?

I actually recall hearing about this recently. There was a worry that it would promote people trying to do things other than win, creating a worse experience overall. It's not hard to imagine things like "have over 400 CS in a single game" resulting in a game where someone's trying to stall out the game as long as possible.
