Regarding Nautilus Q hitbox
Yeah, it's absolutely bonkers. As a person who plays Him, here's my insight on things.
There are few things I can only say/do with Nautilus that I am unable to do with other hook champions:
- I can hook a target that SHOULD be outside of range, and most of the time hit it. This always catches people off guard, sometimes even myself.
- I always tend to think when a clearly out of range hook misses that "Hmmm, that COULD have hit.". The hook hitting or not, it sometimes feels completely random. Like sometimes it acts like it should, and sometimes I hook people from behind walls.
Why do I have a problem with this? After playing Nautilus for long and getting used to his kit, I become completely unable to play normal hook champs like Tresh or Blitzcrank. I never land any hooks on them just because I have learnt that the hitboxes are bullshit and that you can rely on it being that way.
Secondly, it has become so random, that even I am starting to lose the track of where it's going to land. Imagine a situation, where there is a wall, a champion and a minion lined up. After you press Q and from that point, it's all up to the hitbox gods to decide where it lands. This makes the hook really unstable and unreliable, meaning that it becomes a thing that drags down my Nautilus gameplay experience. It's like rolling a dice.
And finally, skillcap. I am not the best Nautilus player out there, hell nah. But even I can see that most of the time Nautilus is picked as a support, it's picked as the "Nautilus is a good character and really easy, let's pick him". This leads to me seeing a completely unexperienced Nautilus players do everything wrong, well, everything besides landing his Q. Does he do any of the other mechanics his Q has? Nope, he can only land it on a character. This makes the progress on Nautilus that you yourself have as a player a bit... pointless. Imagine a first time Nautilus doing well as an experienced Nautilus player, just because of the Q hitbox.
Fixing his hitbox would be better for everyone, even for Nautilus. When his Q becomes a normal skillshot, people need to start learning other tricks and micromechanics he has. Here's an example of one: If you time Nautilus' hook correctly, it works like a channeling movement spell like Tristana's W. If the hook is midway heading towards a wall and you get hit with CC, the hook will still pull you towards the wall. This also works if Blitzcrank pulls you, you just pull yourself back against the wall midgrab.
There are many more mechanics like that that are left forgotten because of this dumb hitbox. It's not fun, it's not good gameplay, it's absolute chaos and garbage. Please, fix it.
