Should HONOR system influence matchmaking?

Kulle Aid··5 votes·2,210 views

I had a thought. The new honor base system and levels you get will it effect ranked? the match making between others?

I think it should. IF you are an honorable player then you should be paired with others who are just as great. this shouldn't have a separate rating, no. this should be obtainable through norms and carry over in ranked. So lvl 5 honor players, the people who are just overall fun to play with and have a good time should be paired with other players that do so. Why not? Why should someone who is LVL 5 honor be punished by a troll/bad mouth/ill willed player who is lvl 1 honor WITH signs that they are there for a reason.

I think over time the honor system should influence matches of who you even play with. This might even show in the VOICE chat. If everyone is honorable and has fun playing the game then the voice chat shouldn't be nearly as toxic. What if voice chat was only available to lvl 4 and 5 honor just so it a privilege to be able to communicate with your team. You as a player were friendly enough that your trusted with voice communication. Where as lvls lower wouldn't have the option as they show signs of being disrespectful of others?

The honor system could actually influence gameplay a lot for solo q if you think about it in this perspective.

I also see that there are errors with this thought. When it first comes out it is going to be that everyone is low and some will climb it faster than others, so I think that it will not be viable till later in. I also see that if your lvl 1 and doing ranked your more likely to be paired with trolls and be losing mmr based on the people you are matched with. That's why I think it should influence match making overall. your honor will carry from norms to rank, unlike your mmr. Which means people who were on tilt and did put down their team and were demoted can redeem themselves through norms.

What is the communities thought? What's riots thought? This doesn't seem to be brought up by many. maybe it has.

Rito has told us numerous times that they do not want to create a "Prisoner's island."

By grouping up the honourable players, you default also group the dishonourable and neutral players. It would not be beneficial to the majority of players.

Each group would have longer queue times, in addition to greater toxicity in most games while a small few get "less toxic games."

this is actually why I think just in ranked it being applied to it. There isn't a prison in normals, and the level would move over from normals. I do think it would increase the q time for most players but it would almost be beneficial to players who are serious and want to win. rather that people who just play the game to troll. especially in ranked where people want to improve rather than be demoted because of others.

I'm not meaning that we cant be grouped with lvl 1's I mean that we are more likely to be paired with people of the same honor. more likely being the key word, but I didn't state this in the post so maybe its less viable.

Queue times are already long for many tiers due to role division. I don't think tacking on another 10+mins would be appreciated (even for better games, since you spend more time staring at the queue which is even less fun).

I think part of ranked is learning to deal with others (even the trolls and feeders). I'm saying this as someone who climbed out of Bronze last year, there are plenty there for me to get context on this. I'd rather be playing with a troll than sitting in queue. If I get demoted, so be it, I'll climb back out. I can't climb back out if I'm stuck in queue though...

Prisoner's Island would be just as big a problem for ranked players (probably even worse due to the stress of ranked) where one bad game will likely lead to two worse games and so on when the goal is to reform players who act poorly.

By mixing players it lets the more honorable players set an example for less honorable ones.

Adding rotten meat to good broth ruins the entire soup.

That's a cute saying, I'm going to steal it. However, I don't think we should separate players on a basis of behavior. All the really negative people are going to be trapped with negative people and that's a sad way to play this game. I don't want that for anyone. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemies.

I agree. I just wanted to point out there are some potential negative consequences. But I think most good players would be fine as long as it wasn't always like 4 toxic + 1 good every game. Now that would be prisoner's island.

If op's idea actually passed then we'd have teams of 5 toxic players....that'll be an awful gaming experience and I'm sure riot wouldn't want that.

Yeah mixing good and bad behavior isn't perfect, but it's miles ahead of the alternative, imo.

To be fair if it was Toxic team vs Toxic team, the winning team will hopefully become slightly less.

Or they were trolling anyways and everyone suffers because of trolls.

Toxicity breeds more toxicity. I can link you to a post from today that said "toxic players make me want to be toxic." I agreed because I thought it was true. When people tell me toxic things I gotta control myself to keep myself from being toxic right back at them.

Prisoner's island is going to make a toxicity problem worse.

And the cycle continues lol

The "Prisoner's Island" already exists. I had really good winrate and got fairly even games. Now that I dropped to honor level 0 I'm lucky if I win 1 out of 10 games. And every game everyone is flaming each other, rage quitting, inting, etc. Spare me the "you deserve it" comments I'm just saying honor level already influences matchmaking.

How much of that is perception though? Try pulling your chat off the screen for a few games or /muteall at the beginning of the game and then look at win/loss ratio.
Perhaps you're triggering it with your chat, so /muteall and not typing would remove it in the majority of games.

Also missing is how often the flame was before that?

The flame could have been the same but now your MMR is evening out with your skill level so you're losing more since its pulling to 50%. Yes, even in normals

It shouldn't, mainly because that would increase the already long queue times

so if you had to pick between being paired up in ranked with people you know are more likely to benefit you as a player in ranked and a shorter queue time, you'd pick a shorter timer?

I mean I see what you mean. I think id rather have people who id enjoy playing with in ranked rather than toxic people who are gonna put down gameplay and effect stats for the team. Id rather wait.

I do get where you're coming from though

FeelsCampedMan1 votes

I get what you mean in that first sentence, but that's what we've currently got, and have always had. It's not as if i'd choose to worsen match quality to lower queue times, but the system we have in place works, which is why I'd prefer not to.

I'm personally a fan of prisoner's island in concept, but it's hard to make it work

see no matter how well I play and how encouraging I am of team mates I seem to always get paired with the people who are ill will and don't want to work as a team. In norms IDGAF ill play to practice, have fun, even try out new builds. I'm almost never going to report someone in norms unless they REALLY deserve it. I mean they would have to be bad for me to actually report them. But ranked ill report even the slightest of ill willed behavior. Just to have people take ranked seriously, I'm tired of having terrible people paired up with me.

Ive demoted from s2 basically straight because of these players and I'm not able to climb with them. But me as a player haven't done anything to deserve being forced to play with these people

This would lead to a Prisoners' Island effect, which Riot specifically tries to avoid.

It would be the most beneficial application. It wouldn't be a good solution, though. It will create two distinct playerbases, and tricklings-through in much the same fashion there is between smurfs right now.

Honor should chill. It got taken advantage of when it was just vanity rewards.
