Closing down game windows such as the shop when damage is taken.

Wolf Costa·4/16/2015, 3:07:37 PM·149 votes·4,117 views

I have seen countless enemies and allies die for having their character screen or their shop open and not even noticing that they are taking damage. It's true, you have a red boarder around you blinking everytime you take damage, but i've seen too many people, including new playes and long-time ones being killed in such a stupid way by not having the sheer quickness of pressing "Esc".

                     Thanks for reading, Wolf Costa.

Fantastic idea. Should be default and can be turned off in options for players who truly don't want it, but noobs never go mess with the options so they default to the safe approach.

Love it!

I'm not going to lie. I rely 80% during laning on catching someone in the last 2 seconds of their recall, assuming they are too busy looking at their shop to see me flash and blast.

This wouldn't hinder that, but it would make it a bit tougher. Challenge ACCEPTED

HeWolf4/16/2015, 5:56:27 PM8 votes

It makes so much sense that I don't know why it isn't a default behavior of the game.

Sheerow4/17/2015, 2:43:26 PM6 votes

This should also include the chat window. It's happened to me too many times I die with the message blah blah bla - qweqqqeeewww in my chat bar :(

Interesting idea, but I think that it crosses the line between a player's responsibility and the game's. Like you stated already, the game has indicators for when you take damage. If the issue is that the current indicators aren't sufficient, Riot can just make it more apparent that a player has taken damage (more red or sound?).

The issue I have with your suggestion lies with the automatic closing of the shop window upon receiving damage. Aside from the fact that this benefits the person with the shop opened over the person preying on him, a player should be responsible for their actions in game. If the player was the one that opted to open the Shop menu in a potentially dangerous area, then the player is the one that should close the menu. It's also not that difficult to close the window since you just need to hit the ESC key. On top of everything, when most players open the shop, especially while trying to swallow the blue pill, they're trying to cut the time that they'd have to spend shopping in the fountain in exchange for a riskier channel.

Safer for window shoppers, riskier for bargain shoppers.

No thanks, this would prevent me from getting kills on inattentive newbies browsing the shop while recalling.

It sucks that when after a big team battle and you want to reap the gold you won, a random Shaco comes and stabs your butthole. I agree completely with this.

Don't text and drive... force drivers to drive instead of texting while driving....

meatbeater884/17/2015, 6:48:59 AM3 votes

I think it is kind of pointless. You shouldn't open the shop in a bad area anyways. It would be friendlier to newcomers, but why take away something that is small and simple to do that would reinforce the idea of "pay attention at all times"

Another thing is that by the time you take damage, you're most likely dead anyways.

Terchio4/17/2015, 7:12:39 AM3 votes

I'm not a fan. If they play bad, that's on them. As a backdoor effect, this could alert people too lazy to tag a tower, and this would discourage surprise ganks.

Also, I don't want a "save the baddie's butt" feature to drop damage taken during a tower dive, so why is this one special? While you get these baddies at times, let them get their MMR dropped for playing bad so that you can get out of their ranking. Yes, yours may drop this game, but if they keep playing like that, they won't be for long. However, features that save their butt will make them win some games they may not have, possibly even over you, as if this is an issue on a couple deaths tops per game, surely this might take a couple kills from you in another. Karma will swing your way, whether you pick her or not.

While I somewhat agree, it could also be to force people to learn to pay attention while they are recalling instead of being absorbed by the shiny items, map awareness and all that.

But overall, yeah, sounds like a nice change.

Sinlaire4/16/2015, 6:15:28 PM2 votes

agreed

Kürama4/16/2015, 9:03:00 PM2 votes

YES!!!! I've died so many times cause I was browsing the store thinking of what to buy next for the current match, by the time I realise I'm taking damage it's already too late to escape the fight and I die. :(

Rito pls.

AMYS GRAVE4/16/2015, 8:07:51 PM2 votes

yup, would be nice.

RisenDarkKnight4/17/2015, 12:29:18 PM2 votes

For me, the bigger issue is getting killed while typing. When I am recalling I often use the time to talk to my team about the next objective or try to calm down toxic people, or congratulate someone doing well. Unfortunately i sometimes die because i see an enemy and press "D" to flash but forgot to send my half-written message first. Right now, you have to be quick to press enter and send out gibberish or even misleading info to your team if you get attacked while typing. Damage should cause the chat interface to close so that you can fight back without out sending your current message.

DrCyanide4/17/2015, 4:42:52 AM1 votes

I'm sorry, but what makes you think you should be able to recall safely while on the battlefield while ignoring the battlefield?

I'm of the opinion you should know to only shop while you're in base. Open the store to check if you have the gold for your next item, but other than that wait until you get back to base.

Worst Mid Ever4/17/2015, 6:09:41 AM1 votes

you should mention that it should just be an option, as many players including myself don't like automatic features

ABlueQuaker4/17/2015, 7:22:26 AM1 votes

And Centre Camera on Champion (like it would if you pressed Space bar).

Megarolf4/17/2015, 9:11:23 AM1 votes

There are some DoTs That last a while so this would be a burden.

It would make more sense to give the shop a slider for transparency.

BLU Medic4/17/2015, 11:27:56 AM1 votes

It's not so much for people who get caught out, it's also for people who accidentally press a shop button or the esc button or something while fighting. It happens.

MavrickArch4/17/2015, 7:09:58 PM1 votes

I wouldn't mind this or the option to add a keybind for opening and closing the shop.

captainkaiger4/17/2015, 8:15:16 PM1 votes

It's the second best jumpscare in League, right after Fiddle ulting your team on top of Baron pit. It's almost a "Accept your fate situation."

rtbf2112795184/19/2015, 1:16:16 PM1 votes

Why wasn't this a thing in the first place?

Helmight4/16/2015, 6:15:09 PM1 votes

I feel like this is a solid change. Being able to close the shop quickly while getting attacked shouldn't be a skill that players need to learn.

Valhalla Rising4/16/2015, 6:28:05 PM1 votes

yes

Fargo794/21/2015, 2:39:31 AM1 votes

so wait i get down voted cause people choose bad places to recall and either start chatting or do window shopping?? the 2 down voters must be the noobs who stand under tower and start looking up their facebook while recalling..

BatteryDead4/16/2015, 5:31:02 PM1 votes

I like this idea!

Solaxo4/16/2015, 8:24:55 PM1 votes

Stupid idea. Just learn to pay attention. Natural selection.

Penta Penguin4/16/2015, 8:57:08 PM1 votes

Every time you leave base, you should understand what item(s) you're thinking to buy next and how much gold you need. So you know as soon as you get back what to look for in the shop.

ShaftyMegee4/16/2015, 11:36:37 PM1 votes

Keep it the way it is. Why put more bubbles around People, it just makes me want to pop them more

Cansema4/17/2015, 2:43:19 AM1 votes

hmm.. riot change the programming to close windows that the player opened on their own in the middle of the rift if they get hit.. or learn not to window shop.. what will happen first?

Durzaka4/17/2015, 2:50:39 AM1 votes

Hell no.

If you get caught shopping, that is entirely your own fault. You assumed you were safe, and made a terrible decision. Why should the game fix that for you?
