People who think support is dumb/boring

Rux100··6 votes·1,521 views

I garantee 90% of people who say this are trying to play Blitzcrank Leona Nautilus or Thresh.

Let me give you some advice: playAlistar Bard Janna or Trundle instead.

The first set are all hook-based, which means that 95% of the time, they have to land their hook, or they're a paperweight. If you suck at skillshots, then stop playing these champions. If you nerdrage easily, stop playing these champions. If you find it difficult to not feed.... stop playing these champions. Here's why: say you land a hook. Good job. Now, your adc must fight or flee, because if your blitz, youve successfully pulled that guy right to you. If you're Leona, you've successfully facechecked him. If you're naut, youve done a little of both. Thresh isnt in trouble unless you hit it again and ZOOM in there. Your ADC has to think "can we actually beat this guy or are you a tard trying to be the hook hero". And if you play passive on these champs for too long, you get antsy because...... well "dammit I can hook 'em".

Play something else, like the second set. Bard forces you to roam, SOMETHING EVERY SUPPORT SHOULD DO!!!!!! Alistar and Janna both give amazing peel as well as a shield or a heal WHICH ISN'T BASED ON A SKILLSHOT!! And Trundle can just spam his pillar and be so goddamn annoying and hey, YOU'RE STILL ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RIVER. Please guys, if you hate support spot and play any of the 1st four listed champs, I urge you to try something else. You'll win more.

More things about supports I think you should all know about that will make anyone a better support (briefly): #1, 99% of the time your adc is more important than you, so die for them (remember i said 99% of the time). #2, its called support, NOT ADC SUPPORT!! If youre team needs you and you're sittin' not doing anything, ping caution on the adc and roam. This can be very affective, especially if the jg can't help at that time. #3, Ward like your life depended on it. Every time you recall, buy a pink ward and keep one in your pack. Buy Sightstone (SS for short), HELP YOUR JG WARD THE ENEMY JG, and I garantee you will open the door for more options. #4, as sup, you probably have the most spare time on your hands, so WATCH YOUR MINIMAP! You're sup, not adc sup, your pings should be the most pings on your team because half of your time is spent running in circles, waiting. You arent killing, you arent CSing, youre just waiting for right moments, so help your whole team!

In conclusion (as a sup main of course) I think sup is the most fun position on the map. I dont have to CS, i have no pressure to kill anyone, hell sometimes I'm running with the enemy right next to him while he's on 2% hp, just so my jg has vision and can catch him. Personally, I highly suggest Janna, she may seem weak and she'll take a while to learn, but she's got an amazing knock-up, shes got a shield (that can be used on turrets btw) that also grants bonus atk dmg, she has a slow, and a passive that lets her move CRAZY fast, and another passive that lets you catch up to her fairly faster than normal. Her ult is mind-blowing when well placed, as well. And IMO... she makes the best bait. Squishy, alone, practically naked... who wouldn't chase that, am I right ;)

P.S. I am in now way saying any of these champs suck or are OP or that any are better than another, my point is simply to suggest a different way of playing support. Blitzcrank works for some. Not for others.

Edit 1: Seems more examples are requested for different sups to try, so here are sups I PERSONALLY deem viable: Anivia Braum Karma Kayle Lux Malphite Morgana Nami Sejuani(especially w/ kalista)Shen Sona Soraka TahmKench Taric Volibear Zilean Zyra Lulu

Champs I do NOT think are good sups (but others seem to, so ill ad 'em anyway): Annie Amumu Brand DrMundo Nidalee Teemo and I dont think they're good because I hate kill-stealers, they can all pretty much hold their own lane (jg or actual lane), and there are just better picks out there. Add more if you want, guys.

To be fair though, Janna IS boring and dumb to play. Shield your ADC, hit some Buttons. Mostly playing passive isn't really an engaging activity (badum-ts)

Bisaknosp2 votes

kek then you cant play her

if you are good with her and can position yourself well it is able to play aggressive especially with an adc like lucian or cait

Lauchmelder2 votes

I can play her on a decent level and I am usually hyperaggressive. She's still boring for me.

Rux1001 votes

I don't see how she's boring: she's challenging to master, and her roam is fun due to her fast speed (only quinn will get there faster). THEN AGAIN, some supports simply don't synergize with some peoples' playstyles. It seems that this is your case with Janna

Janna, [...] shes got a shield [...] that also increases atk speed

I believe you may have the incorrect stat increase there. :P

That said, this is actually a very helpful read. I try to main Support, so when I can find more information about what else I could be doing, it helps quite a bit. The roaming bits are especially helpful.

Rux1001 votes

thank you, ill edit that now.. i always get that mixed up for some reason

Julanus1 votes

It happens. :P

I see you've made some additions as well. Can't say I particularly agree with Kayle's viability, though I might have to give Sejuani a try.

Amumu can be fun as a Support, though I agree he tends to lack in.. overall Supportive capabilities. Also, if I've read the Mage Updates correctly, Brand may be losing his stun (I think?), so he may stop being played as a Support.

A couple other champions I've found at least semi-viable are Galio Galio and Maokai Maokai Support. They seem to have enough tools at their disposal to make it work. However, what are your thoughts about these two?

Rux1001 votes

I DO admit Maokai would seem like a great sup, and very well is in lower elos. The main reason I would not recommend him though, is that he cannot reach full potential Maokai if he isn't in the top lane IMO. He's perfectly capable of holding his own, and rightly should. Anyone seen a late-game top lane maokai? Take that OP Maokai and substitute two of his items w/ a support item and a SS. You'll see a dramatic difference in his ability to make plays. This is all in my opinion of course, doesn't mean I'm right, this is just what I think.

Galio I have seen a rise in as far as supports go lately, and the only thing that concerns me up front is his passive. Extra MR, in the bot lane? His abilities though are VERY support strong, however. I just worry about the amount of power Galio can dish out once he has a few items (I only bring that up because I personally HATE kill-stealing champs like Annie, and he seems the type) and his survivability in a bot lane that usually has no magic damage. Although his roam would be strong against AP jgs especially, making it safe for him to face-check a few bushes to spot untouched buffs and/or ward. Personally I have not played Galio, so I don't know how much damage he can take, so I can only go off of his ability mechanics having just read them. With that said, I honestly do not know. He's definitely worth a good try, I'd have to play him for myself.

Tahm was super strong and was played in a solo and lane in the jungle. Now with his massive nerfs he's crap.

Rux1001 votes

When Tahm could do all of that, he was massively OP. The nerfs were just.

And just because he can't hold his own in a lane does not make him crap. He is still a VERY good support.

Wild Wes1 votes

Look at his winrate.

Rux1001 votes

I invite you to stop looking at winrates, and just look at champion capability.

Look at Azir's winrate. It's low-ish, but does that mean he's bad? Not at all, it just means it takes players a while to truely master him. He has a high skill cap. When he is mastered, he's very good. The same can be said with many other champions, including (in my opinion of course) the River King.

Icestar11862 votes

He still works as a toplaner. Kind of like Braum. A lot of supports can actually solo lane if you build them right.

Ironically, they are better than other supports.

Janna Alistar Bard Thresh Nautilus

Rux1001 votes

Hey I didnt includeMorgana Lulu orBraum and I think those 3 belong in top tier too :P But I shouldve included morg, shes wayyy more fun. But still skillshot based, so yea :/

cinomenapplebae1 votes

I play janna alot but I think she's kinda boring Im starting to play sona and she's easy and fun

Excalibait1 votes

No love for Zyra or Taric?

QjTHqo3RTq1 votes

he was talking about beginner supports, which dont rely on skillshots

Excalibait1 votes

Janna Q got nerfed a while ago and takes a lot of practise to not mess it up. You need to understand when to instacast and when you can channel it.

Alistar combo has a buffer system but I've seen enough people still mess it up. Plus, he's in that "now you're in them 1v5" window pretty easily, which is what he wanted people to avoid.

Bard has a stupidly high skill cap. If you're a beginner Support, you shouldn't even think about playing him.

Only Trundle makes sense, as all he has to do is pulling out his pillar whenever needed and ult the next best enemy tank there is in a fight.

In contrast:

Taric is probably the best and still one of the easiest to pick up supports right now. You see danger incoming or your team is about to go in, you press R, in lane, you use your W and Q every once in a while when they want to do damage, and when they try to engage, point vaguely in their direction and press E.

Zyra is even easier. You don't even need to hit your abilities for the most part, as her plants do all the zoning work for you, so the enemy team can't risk to close in. And if they try, drop your ult.

(Anything I say is my opinion! Feel free to think else about it.)

Rux1001 votes

This is good information. My post wasn't necessarily for beginner supports, just for those who thinks support spot is boring or dumb. You could play Ezreal ADC and be just perfect with your skillshots and still think sup sucked, which is why I added Bard. I just wanted 4 champions who each fit 4 different bills, so to speak.

And just because you may be new to sup, doesn't necessarily mean new to the game either. I go back again to my Ezreal ADC example.

DefNotABot1 votes

I was a support main for the longest time. I've played almost 10k nami games since her release but I have to admit supporting is definitely the most boring role. I usually only support when I really want to win or I'm multitasking

Big Lincoln1 votes

only fun support is bard

the rest are shit boring and usually cancer when they're top tier Alistar Alistar Alistar

also don't say not to play hook champions because of "muh skillshot" and then recommend bard, the hardest support, to beginners

Rux1001 votes

This post wasn't necessarily for "beginners", just to those that think support sucks or is boring. Bard is a lot of fun to play. Also, I recommended Bard because his kit doesn't require him to land his Q. And skillshots were only ONE reason to stray away from the hook champs. Maybe you just find it hard not to feed (another reason i posted)? Well, Bard is ranged AND has a heal AND can magical journey with tail between legs. Much harder to feed with Bard (since he's ranged) than a Leona or a Blitz.

I love Bard. Never want to support unless I play bard. Just picked him up one day and started into like 23 games lol.

I actually think Bard is the most balanced supposed. Mana cost, damage, etc.

kagepaladin1 votes

my fav supports in order are Morgana Kayle Leona Malphite soraka used to be here but im not a huge fan of her updated kit.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

About any champion can be played support if you & your carry can synergize playstyles. For example I've ran as urgot carry with a twisted fate support, we bulldozed the lane, but teamfights were a struggle; we won the game once our teammates caught up. But yeah if you don't have the right mindsets in the first place, support will always be boring to play regardless of which champ you pick.

Rux1001 votes

True enough:

I have two friends that just love to run Jhin ADC and Vel'koz sup, and their win-rate (in their lane anyway) is incredible. Even though Vel'koz isn't the sup type, they find a way to make it work.

darkmatchwaldo1 votes

Anyone who hates supp should just play like Zyra Annie Lux support.

What other role just lets you attack people for all of laning phase, farming be damned?

Rux1001 votes

Many people do not like these kind of supports though (including myself). They get their gold off of stealing your ADC's kills, which should not be happening. Lux is a little better, if I lux sup I use her E to zone out the enemy for the entire spell instead of exploding it immediately. That gives my ADC time to farm. Zyra should be spawning plants like heimer turrets to zone in a similar fashion (I've never played zyra and have very little experience with her, but from what I've read, this).

Also as someone who likes to ADC as well, having a sup stealing your kills is kinda demoralizing. You're the Atk Dmg Carry, yet you're 0/0/5 cuz the annie has tibbers stun every 30 seconds. Go away filthy little wench.

Athenes Lulu1 votes

Poor OP, he has been brainwashed by sheep so hard that Lulu is no longer a support.

Though if your brain isn't peel-focused, then you're gonna have a hard time. Which is something that applies to the majority of players.

Rux1003 votes

Lol, I absolutely meant to add Lulu. I remember clicking on her when I edited the post and added those other champs, maybe I misclicked. I'm a Lulu lover myself, I hope to own her soon. Ill add her, thanks for pointing that out.

Athenes Lulu1 votes

I'll add something to your thread.

#2, its called support, NOT ADC SUPPORT!! If youre team needs you and you're sittin' not doing anything, ping caution on the adc and roam. This can be very affective, especially if the jg can't help at that time.

Sometimes, you also have to consider the consequences (which can be both good or bad) when you roam, especially when your teammates aren't necessarily the smartest people.

Some ADCs can't handle 1v2s for jack shit. Some ADCs excels at that. Some matchups aren't worth leaving because that's basically asking for an autowin for the enemy botlane even for 5 seconds, while some others won't make a difference even if you left the lane for a minute. Not all supports are created equal; some are horrible roamers, while some are designed to roam.

A good roam can cost the enemy a lot, while a terrible roam can cost your team lots. If you are absolutely unsure on whether or not to roam, beginner tip: don't roam.

Of course roaming is encouraged, but make sure to think of the things listed above so you don't screw up the team by trying to make yourself look like you're the "roaming hero".

Icestar11861 votes

Another fun support is Lissandra. Poke them down with Q, or you can let them push a little and all-in with W/R.

Reaper Soraka1 votes

Your ADC has to think "can we actually beat this guy or are you a tard trying to be the hook hero".

Oh god this is why I always lose when I'm ADC. And probably why I lose when I play hook champs! I always try to be that hook hero, pulling Amumus into my team and such. haha

Rux1001 votes

I love Nautilus. But for this reason, I cannot play him. Not support Naut anyway, maybe I'll try him in the top lane.
