The state of casual play

Let me preface this with I sign on to this game maybe once or twice a week. I used to play a lot more but now only play more casually. The state of normals is extremely broken.

I am consistently, without fail, matched with players who are high plat, diamond, and master (I know, I know 'plat players aren't good') but I don't play enough to be better than maybe mid to high gold. I want to get on and actually have fun in 5v5 summoner's rift but am prevented from doing so time and time again and must resort to aram where it doesn't matter. I understand that you want to allow friends to play with each other no matter the rank but wouldn't it make sense to allow people to play with equally skilled players and if their friend(s) were in diamond then the lower of the rankings plays with the better people instead of allowing diamonds+ to play against lower skilled players? It makes it nearly impossible to enjoy a game on casual summoners rift and prevents me from wanting to play more.

Anyone feel similar about this?
