Friendly reminder that turrets need drastic buffs

Sick of this stupid snowball effect. Yesterday I was in a game 26 minutes in that we were losing(I know this is an anecdotal example, but this shit happens constantly whether it's in my favor or against it). We didn't outplay anyone or do anything effectively. We just got outrotated and the enemy team performed much better than us. I'm not saying we were not worthy of a comeback, but this comeback was unjustifiably stupid. Our Master Yi killed the enemy Quinn and Cassiopeia. In the time from their death until their respawn we took Baron, 2 top turrets + inhib, 2 mid turrets, and 1 bot turret, the entire time the turrets melting like butter. With buffs coming to Zz'rot portal, I fear a shift in the meta away from skill-based teamfighting/pick-making transitioning to right clicking turrets because they die so fast and deal no damage. Riot this has been an issue for a while, and I and many others would appreciate if it would stop getting sweeped under the rug. This snowbally comeback shit needs to be tuned down.

Of course it's snowbally, the winter map is here!

Turrets need tools to disengage in early, and force dives to be thought-out and planned ahead. They need to dissuade targets in the late game and assist damage.

If they could tankbust on repeated hits, like %HP damage when they're over a threshold, that would be amazing.

You managed to take Baron, then 5 turrets and 1 inhib across all 3 lanes, in considerably less than a minute, while behind, with 3 members of the enemy team up? Weak turrets or not, I'm getting the feeling that wasn't the only factor here.

well a while i ago i was playing toplane Sion vsMaokai

as one would expect a complete wet noodlefight where we was contantly fighting each other with no signs of it ever leading to somewhere (though it was fun)

Then i saw an enemy LeeSin gank for his buddy Yasuo and i though well i can't let those bastards just do that to my poor Xerath and i ran mid screaming COOOOWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARDS at the top of my lungs and trampled allover Yasuo and Lee while xerath blasted them to pieces, HAH serves them right

Red team has destroyed a tower and earned bonus gold for destroying the first tower Maokai took down the tower with 1 minion wave . . .

well there went the lead we got from my roam right out the window

I had a poppy with 2 cloth armors tank 15 turret shots. and she was at 60% hp after

This game needs low risk - high reward elements to ensure that people don't trade farm for 50 minutes.

And btw, Yi didn't just abuse weak towers, he also abused that the enemy team had no real frontline. That's one of the weaknesses ranged top laners have.

I actually wish the environment was a much bigger portion of the game. The turrets being a part of that. When you remove that, it's just one big dance. But if the turrets were menacing, and the jungle monsters roamed the jungle, and Baron occasionally spit on passers by, and they gave us Red wards that would explode when you walked on them I think the game would be a lot more fun.

Riot has taken turrets in a direction that makes them less of things used to defend, and more of things to defend (AKA Objectives). I personally like this change, but I can see why it is strange considering the normal role of towers or turrets in most strategy games.

I don't believe you

where did the lazor turrets go?

Tobias Brackner12/15/2016, 9:09:02 AM2 votes

Dude, they let you kick their asses so they couldn't hold their turrets against you.

You maximized your lead and got Baron buff (which is literally designed to melt turrets)

Turrets only die fast if your team has the dmg to kill them quickly and deal fucktons of dmg early and good dmg mid. Late game they aren't amazing but more than enough to give an edge in a close fight. Seriously, catch a tank asleep on the wheel and you'll git a kill for break their seige.

If they aren't buffed to the point where kill lane botlane is THE only way to get through, then sure.

Main problem with stronger turrets is that camping one lane will not punish teams for not taking care of other lanes (in all honesty there has to be some risks for doing so), and possibly encourage "teleport to bot lane for free kills" meta once again for all.

The support pool is pretty diverse as of now, and even tank supports and mages botlane has the clearest strengths and weaknesses. Even the ADC pool is pretty diverse as compared to before. That's because with weaker turrets, poke comps can be viable, and with kill lanes they still got a chance to kill and get the tower easily.

Yeah, I am biased, but do be careful on what you wish for.

Been saying this for years, turrets have gotten progressively weaker & less useful as the game as aged. They've become more frail, deal less damage, and get out-ranged/out-dodged too easily.

Shadòw12/15/2016, 5:52:09 PM2 votes

they need to deal % Damage and ignore Armor so Rammus Malphite and such shit can't tank it for hours

You should've added a poll to the end of this.

Here's an idea for a turret buff. If you are in range of an enemy turret, and an enemy champion is also in range, after 2-4 turrets shots (based on whatever is balanced), you automatically gain turret aggro as if you damaged a champion.

This way, turrets would be much easier to defend, yet would still fall fast if no champ is there to defend them.

Ziggs + lichbane = what are turrets anyways? :D

invisiblecat112/16/2016, 2:53:33 AM1 votes

This is a vicious cycle: Riot buffs champion damage Towers melt Riot buffs towers Champions have a decent time killing them Same 4 steps that are going to repeat until champions one shot towers

Lord Desert12/16/2016, 2:58:43 AM1 votes

good thing that there is a thread out there with all the math and even ideas to get towers back on track: SummonersLab, Part 3: Tower Changes

feedback is appreciated :D

I have no issue if the enemy team screws up and my team gets to make a comeback. Especially in ranked where your skill is meant to be at a consistent level.

Laser towers killed siege compositions from ever happening since they would never work, smaller advantages didn't really exist (you had to completely crush the opponent and the meta was tuned to do so), and worst of all, late game pushes didn't mean you'd win with one or two team members left alive after a team fight. The game was suuuper slow those days. I'd rather not return to 38+ min games where nobody wants to surrender.

Shroomen Rider12/16/2016, 4:05:51 PM1 votes

The easiest way to win right now is to take 1 inhib and distract your enemy. We are in a meta where one wave of super minions can almost take a nexus tower by themselves. Add a zzrot portal to that, and the enemy has to send a lot of resources to that one lane.
