Does lp gain even make sense?

So I've recently gotten from b3 to s3 and now instead of getting 30lp a game and loosing 10-14 a game I only win 18 a game and loose around 16... Is it really supposed to be so hard after riot "assign" you to a certain division. Getting up to Gold V now would take over 40 won games with no losses.. Any help?

you're supposed to practice in-between ranked games, instead of a straight climb

it would be like a chess player doing nothing but tournaments as opposed to playing unranked games for practice
