Is Ahri's W useless?

It doesn't seem to do much damage, and it's scaling is really low even if all 3 orbs hit.

I do agree the way how w works is stupid , but you know , in your case , you had no problem at all , there is a delay between fox fires , and you didn't stay in the range for the 3rd fox fire to launch

Not useless, but terrible ai targeting and extremely unsatisfying to use.

Yeah, I just started trying her out, so I am legit curious if it is good for anything. Early game it gets me some CS I'd miss if I just autoed, but after first back, i just need 2 Qs to clear most of the wave, and it just gets easier from there.

If my memory runs right it's Rylai's Fodder. So if you are fighting someone you basically get three free 20% slows or a three second 20% slow not including the rest of your burst.

Honestly it's just something you press when you are going all in or just trading. I just push when I go in with r. It works nice with lichbane since it has no cast time.

While I don't think Ahri's W is 100% useless, I agree that it's a boring and weak ability. Its entire gameplay boils down to a proximity check, and neither of Riot's planned reworks for Ahri really changes that. As mentioned in the OP, its damage is so low, even when all 3 Fox-Fires hit, that it doesn't feel particularly rewarding to land them. If Riot wants to continue improving Ahri, I think they need to rework the spell to be a bit more skill-expressive and interactive, so that Ahri can both scale better and give her opponent more ways of outplaying her if she happens to be near them.

As a side note, I personally hate this trend in League where abilities are meant to be best used as single-target damage, yet have damage reduction upon hitting the same opponent. It's completely counter-intuitive, and the only real reason it exists is to provide some amount of waveclear, which is becoming increasingly undesirable in an environment where Rito wants to make waveclear more difficult. I'd much rather Ahri's Fox-Fires had weaker individual damage, but had absolutely no damage reduction whatsoever, so that landing all three would be much more rewarding compared to landing just one. In fact, even with the current, boring and fairly dysfunctional targeting paradigm on her W, doing so could be a way of enabling more skill expression and healthy power on her.

good for rylais, good for procing electrocute. and ludens, if you are super low on mana. SOMETIMES good for finishing off suyperlow health minions quickly when you have no mana(because fixed cost)

actual damage itself? not so much.

ohh wait. good for jumping in and gettnig multi-target assists sometimes :D

Yeah , it's pretty useless unless you go in range in 5 vs 5 fights which leads to a shi**y position and risk everything it has a decent damage in late game tho m but again you need to get closer with ult , as for early , that ability is garbage , when you fight a Fizz and then he presses E so the rest of Fox fires hit minions , and it has many other problems , I'd like to have the range increased not to mention it has high mana cost so useing it to farm will drain your mana also don't forget that it's one of the unhealthy abilities in the game , you be like , flash from a fight to a Dragon side or Baron side and you be like , get yourself killed by your own w when you already used it in the fight thinking it will hit someone but it doesn't not to forget how many times I survived on low HP and ran from the jungle side but a Gromp killed me because of my w

It does really weak damage, has low range, has no utility and is unreliable most of the time orbs hit the wrong target or don't hit anybody at all because of the low range.

Yes. I believe buffing it QoL-wise is enough, such as not jumping on the nearest jungle camp or focussing charmed targets.

If I had to rework her I'd put it on passive (every time she casts a spell, she summons 3 foxfires) and give them spell vamp so she still gets the sustain.

Short answer: yes. Long answer: if Ahri had a dick would it look like the one of a fox? Real answer: do you ever use your W outside of hitting someone with your E far away from the minion wave? If you answer yes then it´s useful for doing what Ahri is good at having everything rely on her E.
