A Solution for Rakan

Gamers, I am back with another post to attempt to generate discussion around Rakan's state in the game. With the recent buff to his w, things are improving (it was buffed to a flat 1500). Though, I feel a bit more is needed as his W without flash or ult is still rather lackluster. Rakan is now more of a secondary engage champ, which is an identity that I do not find suitable. I miss having Rakan be the high risk & high reward full engage champ. Now, since he has literally no base stats and a much slower W, I feel like I have lost part of my champion. His identity has been changed. Though it would not be nearly as powerful as it once was, if the W speed were to be made at a flat 1900 or 2000 then he would be able to return to some of his former glory without having his RW be completely busted (since his w would no longer scale with movement speed). Also, Riot could potentially make the w speed start lower and scale with rank as to incentivize w max, which they have clearly stated they want. This would allow him to return to being a primary engager without becoming broken in pro play again.

Feel free to share your thoughts, gamers!

Would it help to walk closer before casting W? I wouldn't be opposed to them buffing his W if they also made him unable to use it during R. R+W = engage you absolutely cannot dodge. That's not a thing that should exist in game.

He is among the elite list of champions who need to be kept in an underpowered state as a result of pro play, otherwise he'd jump back to being unquestionably the best support in the game and it's not hard to see why. The versatility he has with is ultimate is insane and gives him one of the longest and most reliable hard engages in the game and also perhaps the best counter engage in the game.

Idk... I always considered Rakan to be a secondary engage champion. He can facilitate as the primary engage but he’s always functioned better as the secondary engage. He’s squishy af with mediocre damage and short range. He’s designed to be flashy, disrupt/distract the opponent them heal/shield an ally... flitting in and out. He’s not designed to remain in the front line, nor stay in the back lane, it’s a careful mixture of both. So his identity really hasn’t changed at all.

All that being said, I haven’t played Rakan recently... when I did, I built a mixture of enchanter and tank stats... which worked amazingly: aftershock was my main rune. Build ardent and redemption, Zekes, sometimes knights vow or locket, mr/armor boots and finish up with a hard tank item.

In the botlane 2v2 he does function as primary engage Yh... but in the 5v5 teamfights, it’s always been better to have a tank who could initiate/soak up the initial damage to allow an insane secondary engage by Rakan... that was always my interpretation of the ideal, but with the added benefit that Rakan could function as the primary engage if necessary... tho not ideal. He’s supposed to be an aggressive battle dancer, which meant u assessed when, how and where to engage, not just do it anytime. Which was the main problem with the RW interaction, it was too reliable and in a sense... safe cuz it was pretty much guaranteed since it was quite fast. The range increase without a speed boost likely will be enough, tho I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
