Unranked players and their first game

Greetings fellow players,

I had the unfortunate pleasure of gaining a first time(ever) ranked player on my team. Attached is a link to his profile, upon which I noticed he/she was literally playing bot games before deciding to jump into his/her first ranked game.

So to give you a better picture of the teams. Our highest ranked player was G5 and lowest being S1. Their highest was an G2 and their lowest being S3.

I'm just trying to wrap my head around how we got a guy/girl that still plays bot games in a gold ranked match... I just don't understand how that's fair matchmaking. My only intent is to try bringing this into the limelight as I find it to be a very big hindrance to my ranked progression, as it has happened a few times in the past (although not very often).
