Why can't lp and mmr be based on performance instead of win/loss in solo queue?
it seems like that would be much better. and more accurate as long as you figure out how to judge performance.

It would shift the entire incentive of the game.
Right now the goal is destroy the nexus, taking at least 5 towers and an inhibitor to do so. Teamwork, gold advantage, and objectives work to that end.
If the goal was to “do well” then the entire focus and incentives in the game fall apart. Now we’re just fragging with master yi for a KDA. Now we’re just shielding with shen for a low amount of damage taken. Now we’re just picking zac or Sion for a low death rate and so on.
Because you can't grade performance that well. I could just play safe, farm well, and never die and get a "good" performance off that yet lose the game for my team because I never fought.

this. to add to this remember the objective of the game is to destroy the enemy nexus. sure good cs, not dying a lot, and dealing damage helps, but the fact that the ultimate goal is to destroy the enemy nexus invalidates those factors to determine climbing

The first challenge is figuring out how to judge performance that is consistently more accurate. By doing that, you are invalidating any new strategy that anyone come up with that may be good for winning but bad for stats. Is the goal to win, or "win, but you have to do it a certain way"
The second challenge is that then the stats become more important than the win. "I refuse to team fight because we are going to lose anyway and I don't want to mess up my kda and lose more so I'm going to farm so my kda and cs are good before they take the nexus"
There's no real way to judge performance fairly and efficiently
