As Ivern main I have to explain how my abilites works almost every game

BTheM·4/10/2019, 6:55:08 PM·15 votes·10,390 views

and this could be another reason why he has lower pickrate

here Ivern abilities btw

yes I know, Ivern has very low pick rate

but it's very frustrating that almost every game my teammates don't know how Ivern work

I don't remember how many times ganks failed just because they don't know how my Q works

and how many extra buffs wasted just because they didn't know that it exists

I actually thought that it's a low elo problem, after asking high elo Ivern one-trick players they told me that it's like this even at challenger

I lost all of my motivation to rank up, I wanted to reach high rank hoping that people know how my abilities works

there are also many other champions with problems like these ( Bard's W for example)

I don't know how Riot can fix this and I don't think it's even possible

You don't leash but you still watch for invades. Don't know how many times I've been told to go away when that's the actual reason why I'm standing at the jungle entrance. (This isn't Ivern specific as several Kayn and Shaco junglers tend to freak out when people aren't going afk at their towers).

Tahm Kench feels your pain. ADC's never stop clicking when you save them. Poor things are like picking a small dog up out of the water. They still kicks their legs as if they are the ones still swimming.

I remember when I mained Ivern for a while and people kept outright dodging games because I picked Ivern...

I love Ivern! I commend you for being an Ivern main. :D And honestly... I wish more people helped guard for invades or warded or protected their JG and understood how to deal with enemy JGs as well. I main mid and a large part of my job is focused on putting my JG ahead and keeping them safe. Sadly, with random lower elo JGs they do not know about giving over blue so I cannot have the mana to help them in those games... and they never pay attention to lane priority. -_- However! An Ivern gives double buffs. :D And is wonderful if I am playing say... Malzahar, so I can instantly go in on them and ulti-them after they are rooted. :D

I think things would go a long way if Riot could figure out an intuitive way to help explain some of the weirder mechanics champs have while in game. Like having a sort of "optional side quest" message thing to tell you things like:

Ivern has left a present at (Insert name of buff monster). Pick it up if you wish to gain a (insert buff name). Ivern is in your jungle. He won't need your help with the small camps but always be mindful of enemies trying to sneak into his jungle for him. Bard has left a shrine. Let it fully charge to get most possible HP from it. Kindred is marking targets. Let them get kills on these targets to allow them to gain more power. Thresh GRAB. THE. LANTERN! Kalista Has sent you a friend request. click the black spear on the ground to accept. Pyke Let him have the kills to maximize gold profit for whole team. Ornn Upgrade an item with a Ornn master work upgrade. limited 1 per customer.

I'm happy that he started to be picked up more by alot of people during the jungle exp nerfs so now alot more people know what he does. But yeah, I think they need to make his Q "pull" indicator more sensible to people that don't know what he does.

Yeah, back when Skarner had an extremely low pick rate I refused to play him cuz trying to explain his spires every single game got tiring. So, can confirm that that's potentially one reason why Ivern's pickrate is so low XD

Plat 4 right now (i just dropped from Plat2 cuz i got tilted) I've only encountered like 4 guys who didn't know what ivern does, 1 guy tried to hit the monster as i was applying my passive and he got hit twice by it and the other 3 where guys who didn't know that at lvl5 i can give them buffs, but apart from that everyone kinda know what ivern does or i'm just lucky AF (28 games and 61% winrate on ivern)

Feels like Ivern is turning into Old Yorick , cause nobody but people who played him knew how his ult worked. Plenty of games where people were paniced because they didn't know what was happening to them when they should've died. It had great synergy with Sion though.

Y-your... your sole motivation to rank up was to not need to tell people u dont need a leash? 0.o

WAZZZUP5004/11/2019, 12:56:42 PM1 votes

Same with morde, people dont know that my w heals them. But, it is funny when the enemy dies cause they didn't know my ult was dot. Once i killed a tryndamere with the dot; he didn't think to use ult or rage heal cause he didn't even notice he was dying lol.

GudLunchHavFries4/11/2019, 3:44:10 PM1 votes

This was me as Zilean before his mini rework.

while its common knowledge now, there was once a time when NOBODY knew how Zil's ult worked.

I had games where I ulted people, they run away, wasting my ult, and when I ask why they said stuff like "Who the fuck knows how zilean works man"

Tho now that people DO know how he works, enemies bait my ult now, so I ult a teammate mid fight and the enemies won't attack him so he doesn't get the revive.

So either way whether people know how Zil's ult works or they don't, I'm fucked either way. :/

KoggyStyle4/11/2019, 4:50:02 PM1 votes

too be there* incase of a invade yes.

btw i cant play this champ at all but i do play em occassionly on aram or bots.

Bløød Zerø4/11/2019, 8:35:51 PM1 votes

Lol Vlad is popular in pick and ban but ppl still don't understand his ult mark lasts 4 seconds and whole it is applied it increases ALL dmg to them by 10% including turrets and dragons. More than 75% don't even know it marks them then bursts for more dmg let alone the 10% part.

I met a dude once who thought I was taking his CS. I was playing Leona with Relic Shield.

L Rayquaza4/13/2019, 5:37:32 AM1 votes

On a similar note, until he got popular (and a little bit after) donyou know how fun it is seeing someone accept their fate instead of attacking the ring when you trap them as Yorick?

Butterwood4/10/2019, 7:03:35 PM1 votes

I always explain when the game starts to be safe. There's usually at least one death per game that is attributed to people interacting with Ivern's Q incorrectly though.

l MrD l4/10/2019, 7:10:48 PM1 votes

I feel like its similar to bard ... im bard and i create a tunnel over to drag to attempt a steal ... what do they do ... flash over and suddenly have no escape or seed over and force to flash out .... RIP flash and RIP wasted tunnel ...

I don't leash for ivern but i will always watch for invades and also try to avoid behaviors that blatantly give away what camp he starts. Its just another case of USE THE LANTERN FFS GUYS when people don't bother to learn the basic mechanics behind all champions.

Edit. I had a notepad saved back in the day that had the basics stuff about kit interactions for Thresh, then later for Bard. Would just open it and copy paste at game start. Saved me a lot of time. You might wanna do this for ivern op.

Mael Jade4/10/2019, 9:43:01 PM1 votes

I play Ivern. While in loading screen I prepare a copy pasta explaining my stuff. Works, mostly

Ahri Baka4/10/2019, 9:59:41 PM1 votes

Yeah the best way to piss an Ivern main off is to try to leash them lmao
