The Issue With Sona (In My Opinion)

Well, I'm sure we've all seen plenty of gripes about Sona's state in League, and plenty of proposals to try and fix that. In my time here, though, I'm not sure I've ever seen someone really try and pinpoint the exact problem that is causing Sona to be in her state, and I believe that the following is the case: Sona's kit contains a lot of different useful tools; a movespeed buff, a heal that can also give a shield, a damaging poke ability and auto-attack buff, and, of course, her AoE stun ult. I'd say the reason she's kept low numbers-wise is because she has so much different stuff going on, and if her ratios/numbers are high she can do a lot of stuff really well. I think the solution to this would be to rework her basic abilities to focus on doing one thing really well and better than the other supports, because it offers space for her to be strong and have good numbers, but also she has more deficiencies to take advantage of. Overall, while being a jack-of-most-trades is sort of a niche within itself, it isn't healthy in a game like League, where a few wrong numbers can make that champion totally overpowered and able to do too much, unable to do much of anything at all, or have some abilities that are very strong, and the rest feeling completely useless.

TL;DR: Champions that do too much at once are unhealthy for this game and very difficult to balance, and Sona is sort of in that spot right now.

I feel like Sona is in a fine spot at the moment and I'm not just saying that because I am a Sona main. Sona, yes, is a "jack-of-all-trades" champion in a sense but she has a defining identity and defining weaknesses. If you want a good poke support that can keep an ADC down, Sona is your champion. Nami can be good in that sense too, but Nami's poke doesn't really do what Sona's does in the sense that Sona is SUPPOSED to be painful to squishy ADC's. Sona's heal/shield are terrible to be honest and pretty weak, it is there just as a semi-safety precaution to either guard her carry from some poke or herself when she goes in to poke. Her E is and pretty much has always been a little useless outside the slow for her passive. Her ult is not terribly long ranged so it requires her to be close to danger much like the rest of her kit. If you want to counter Sona pick a hard engage support and she can't do much unless the player is experienced and knows what to do. Blitzcrank is Sona's biggest counter (then again who doesn't he counter lol) Sona is hard to balance but I feel like for once she feels good enough to be picked as a poke support that deals good early game damage that can carry into mid game if you build her that way. But she is a poke support first and foremost even with her "JoAT" kit she fits that role well without doing healing/speed buffing too well.
