Support wouldn't be such a rare role if it was more fun/rewarding.

Being constantly under leveled, under farmed, and under itemized leaves support a very crappy role to play as.

Several support champions get nerfed simply because they become useful in other lanes (such as mid) leaving their damage consistently on the lower end of the spectrum. While few, this does admittedly have exceptions (Morgana, Zyra, and Karma come to mind) But the over all case in point is that the role is... boring. You are expected to support another player who may or may not be good, and it is exceptionally hard to carry as a support. It's not impossible, but it is harder than probably any other role in the game at it, and there are certain support picks who just can't, meaning their are some better than others.

Support items have been coming back, which is cool, but you can't buy them if you don't have any gold for them. The first buy support items generally don't give back as much gold as simply farming could, especially with the runic shield. Not to mention the stats on them are kept deliberately weak so they aren't bought in other lanes.

There is a pattern here.

A youtuber once joked about how more people would play support if there we announcements in-game such as "Triple Assist" or "Double Ward". It sounds good on paper, but then u remember....league players exist.

People play Raynor more than Lili

It's not about the stats. It's purely about the fantasy. People want to kill or take objectives themselves. You cannot remove that without fundamentally changing support.

The gold items are to give you bonus income for NOT farming, since you are supposed to let the adc do that, of course farming well is going to give you more gold than a gold item, otherwise no one would farm and they would just sit on the item. The role is fun to some people, like me for instance. I think the role is in an alright place right now. My only complaint is that I find it harder to carry with than other roles (which is funny since a lot of people claim support is easy and easy to carry with). It's a pain in the ass to climb with but I manage to do so anyways ;)

there is nothign fun about having to rely on ur team 100%. adc buidls wrong u lose adc doesnt follwo u lose. last but not least its always the supps fault for losing

That or the jungler. Jungler doesn't gank, jungler's fault we lost. We lost our lane, jungler fault for not ganking. Support and junglers are giving that criticism a lot.

I actually enjoy the support playstyle a lot, especially in teamfights.

However, I can't stand being shackled to the ADC for the first 15-20 mins of the game and being totally dependent on them in order to do well.

Your Morgana, Zyra and Karma exception example does not fit because those three are secondary supports. There is a difference between those three (add Lux in as well) versus Soraka, Thresh, Bard, Janna, etc. Those four (Oh! Add Orianna!) are primary mages that have a supportive ability. They all deal damage with 3/4 (ult included) abilities and one defensive/supportive one-- a shield. Compare that to Janna or Soraka, who is entirely meant to be played with another ally. Soraka has 2 damaging abilities and a ult that could help her but she has a heal that she CANNOT use on herself. Janna has a point in click spell that may work in a offensive manner and a building damage over time line skill-shot but at then end of the day, it won't help her much at all. There is a difference between primary supports and secondary supports: the damages and supportiveness in their kit. Zyra, Lux, Orianna, Karma and Morgana have much more power in their kits than any primary supporting champion by nature (*Cough cough *Sona is an exception). While Bard can be annoying and powerful, it is the play-style that makes that possible. Seeing how his q is his only damaging source. Pay attention to allied minions and walls and be good. All you have to be worried about is his passive. That is what really gets players. Just something I wanted to mention: Primary mages, Secondary Supports are meant to be more powerful compared to Primary Supports. Just note that.
