Greivous Wounds getting phased out?

Aurrek·1/28/2015, 3:53:15 PM·1 votes·1,006 views

Just seems last few patches the options to apply Greivous wounds is getting smaller and smaller

Fizz (W) Tristana (E)

Executioners Calling -This was another option removed although the item in general wasn't often used but the option was nice to have an AD item for the effect.

seem to remember some other champs losing it recently but its slipping my mind which.

Next up? MF, Varus, Morrelonomicon?

Gotta be stingey with those ignites facing fed MUNDO Swain WW etc.

Taken from a post I made in another Grievous Wounds discussion.

{quoted}

Here's what I remember being described about the state of Grievous Wounds way back in the old forums:

The biggest problem about Grievous Wounds is that it essentially boils down into incredibly binary scenarios. For example, Grievous Wounds items. What happens when the item is highly tuned stats per cost item 3165? Everyone buys it, all healers now need to be overtuned to compensate, all this ends up with is ridiculously stupid healing potential Swain and the expectation that you're buying Morellonomicon anyway.

If, for example, Grievous Wounds are either completely removed or reserved for much more niche/impactful situations (summoner 14), then it's fair game imo. Otherwise, too easy access to Grievous Wounds means that, from a game balance standpoint, healers need a little extra to compensate. To rephrase, poor implementation of Grievous Wounds threatens the balance of the game (at least in regards to healers vs anything else).

I don't think Grievous Wounds is going to be completely removed, but I do expect to see a lot of today's implementations of Grievous Wounds either get flushed out or reworked. The concept weighs down on balance by making things binary - think of why so many people get annoyed at Yasuo - even if the concept itself isn't inherently broken. The removal of Grievous Wounds however can eventually lead to better normalization of Health Tanks (Dr. Mundo and Volibear's healing factors no longer have to be so extreme, for example) and way better power distribution to places where it actually matters, but you can't implement without risking making the healing champions OP.

I guess you could consider it a buff to MF and Varus

Well IMO it wasn't something that Fizz or Tris really needed and i'm glad they took it out

Looking at pre-nerf fizz it seemed like It was kind of just there to mess with swain and not really a part of the kit you really depended on or took into heavy consideration.

For Tris it was similar it seemed like it was just there so that when she dueled she had LS and the opponent didn't which seems a bit out of place on her kit theme wise. You expect Tris to be a late game hyper carry team melter with raw damage, not the insane duelist

I am disappointed with the removal of Executioners Calling, granted it's stats were sub -par for many it will still a nice option and worked wlel on some champs when the need arises., I really hope they bring out another AD or Tank item with grievous wounds

riot does this intentionaly

they added grewious wounds to keep mundos at bay but now they noticed that all they need to do is to ballance numbers on healing champs without adding that additional complexity to the game

so they will remove grewious wounds and nerf healers

morellonomicon is one of the strongest and most accessible items in the game right now. maybe theyre just more focused on removing it from champion kits and relegating the task to APs.
