I wrote this like 3 seasons ago. I think it's still relevant, and I'm feeling lazy otherwise.
Playground Tactics
OR: Some common sense things to think about if you die a lot.
This is based on observations I've been making leveling a smurf, and watching new/poor players against both humans and bots.
They die a lot, and they die to things that seem like common sense, but apparently aren't. These are things you can learn on the playground (at least if you got in fights a bunch as a kid).
The below is not advance tactics. This is for new players, and poor players who want to fix their double digit death games. Better players will be able to point out all kinds of situations where the advice isn't perfect. I get this. However, people need to learn to live, then they can learn to be risky.

Strength in numbers applies. If you are outnumbered, you probably shouldn't be picking a fight. If there are more of them, they have an advantage. Generally speaking, you aren't going to be strong enough to win that fight. Towers count as people. Early game, they count as big people.
The advanced part of this is: minions count. If you are fighting them when they have a large minion wave, those minions count for damage, and mean that they functionally outnumber you. Remember minion damage. They may be small, but they add up fast.
-
The big guy wins fights. If that big guy over there is higher level than you, and fed, and all big, bad, and killing people on your team, 1v1'ing them is going to be a bad idea. Bring a buddy, heck, bring two. If you've been losing to this guy in the past, you're going to keep losing to him, at least until you pump some iron, eat some meat, and bulk up.
-
When you're the gimp, don't start fights. If you're running around at less than half hp, don't start shit. You're probably too weak and squishy to win that fight.
This applies to the big guy too. If you've been being the big guy, but you're busted, you're still busted, and not as big as you think you are.
-
That guy has friends. This is a team game, and the enemy has a team as well. If you can't see the friends of the guy you're chasing they are probably waiting behind those bushes he's running toward, getting ready to ambush you.

Smear the queer is alive and well. It doesn't matter that that 4man gank wasn't fair, it happens. Get over it. Furthermore, try to see it coming, and not be around for it. Or get some buddies, and even the odds.
If you've been a free kill all game, people will keep smearing you. You are a target of opportunity, remember it. Get some bigger friends.
-
The gimp and queer aren't whole people. Numbers matter, but if one of your buddies is weak, he's worth less than 1 person in a fight. Remember this when judging numbers.
-
When the gimp has friends, leave him alone. If the beat up guy has a bunch of buddies around him, don't dive to kill him. His friends are going to turn and curb stomp you for it, you probably won't get the kill anyway, and even if you do, with how assists work in this game, you were worth more money than he was. Greed kills.

The playground is a big place, keep an eye open. You know your enemies have buddies, try and keep track of where they are and how they are doing. Know who the big guys are. Know who the weak ones are. Know when one of them may be sprinting up behind you to jump on your back.
In LoL terms, this means map awareness. The minimap is a wonderful thing, so are wards, so is just plain looking. The leaderboard will show you death timers.
Furthermore, keep track of your own friends. Know how they are doing so you can judge fights better.
-
If all your friends jump off a bridge, don't follow them. Just because other people on your team are being stupid, doesn't mean you should follow them into their stupidity. All you do is add to the problem, and increase the stupidity level.

Whining doesn't help, you just look like a loser. Don't stand around complaining in chat. Dying because you're typing is embarrassing.
Again, this is all advice for staying alive. At some point you can break out and learn to be more aggressive, but if you haven't yet learned basic human survival instincts, you need to step back and tone down the aggression.
