2/7 PBE Update

And I for one, am hyped.

For those of you who don't want to read the full update, here it is.

Yo ^o^/ ARURF will be enabled soon on PBE for testing. What's changed? Since the last time we ran ARURF the following champs have undergone some sort of decent surgery or are new! Camille Warwick Assassins patch Talon Katarina LeBlanc Rengar **Why did ARURF take so long to come back? ** Getting ARURF working with the new League client was only one of a few reasons ARURF has taken a bit longer. If you remember, ARURF was originally a test for us trying to solve some of the problems of old URF, where it would stagnate in unique ways that other modes didn't (EG: Poro King). Old URF would get stale pretty quickly, meta would set in, and there was also some pretty unhealthy play patterns. We often talked about possible solutions to this including adding bans, daily rotation or restrictions on the champion pool or making the mode All Random (which we eventually went with). After the first run of ARURF, we've been checking to see if it was any better and are looking now to try it again.
**Known issues: ** Reroll rates are still accelerated for both ARURF and ARAM while the mode is enabled. This unfortunately means you'll be generating wa~ay more rerolls in both ARAM and ARURF than you'd expect. How terrible.. :3 ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) We've switched off the ostentatious damage numbers from previous versions. Should be back to just normal damage display now. Thanks as always for helping test stuff on PBE and find/report bugs. The mode won't be on today anytime, but we'll most likely switch it on soon to get testing started. How soon? Soon(tm). :P Also, even if we don't get to replying to every post, we do actually read ALL of what you guys comment. No joke. Our team combs these threads for bugs (and fresh memes). Cheers everyone. :D -- L4T3NCY

ARURF is probably the most toxic game mode I have seen to date. You roll one of your 100+ champions to get someone you rarely play and don't care for only to face someone who has their main character or other OPs cause they are using an ARAM account. All I like URF for is playing around with champions I wanna play but with the random factor it totally ruins the fun of it. So what if we saw the same 15 champions every 2-3 games. At least we could pick who we wanted and tryhard with goofy team comps (team litterbugs, team hookers, team stealth, team AOE wombo combo, team global ults). ARURF is all the tryhard of URF with all the toxicity of aram. Bring back the pure URF.

I understand your opinion, but I disagree. Personally, I kind of like the thrill of playing someone who I might not have played very much. It also means I see a lot less Shaco (thank god. I hate that Clown) and a lot more interesting champions that I wouldn't see or play normally. That's my opinion, at least.

I mean, one of the bigger problems with the stale meta that comes from these game modes. (And I don't think Riot is wrong about the URF meta being stale) is that there become more Backlash when you deviate from the meta. (Especially from those same tryhards.) And balancing URF mode itself is quite a hand full, as previous attempts to do so required Riot to basically perma ban certain champions, or heavily nerf them. And the game state changes too quickly to compensate for new or reworked champions in URF mode.

But to be fair, I think it takes a certain Mindset to appreciate the randomness. As an ARAM player Myself, I enjoy the challenge of taking what I am given, and trying to see what I can do. While the Opponents of ARAM, dislike the part where the teamcomps are formed unevenly, and feel like the outcome of a match is completely determined by the random selection.

Yeah. It certainly isn't perfect, but I really don't know how to fix it. I'm not sure if there is a fix! But as far as fixes go, I do believe ARURF was the best thing they could do.

In my ARAM experience it is decided at champ select often but not exclusively. If a team has Sona that's a good indicator they have an advantage simply because of the heal, poke, and cc which is everything you want in ARAM. However it's not a guarantee to win just because she's on your team.

In URF the strong champions and weak champions differences are vastly exaggerated. If you have: (old) Warwick , Aatrox , Mordekaiser , or Udyr you are at a heavy disadvantage to any number of poke champions and MR/Armor doesn't seem to help as much in URF because they can just constantly poke you from range without any concern for your retaliation.

Then the common ARAM toxicity of people spamming "get gud" or "ggez" after getting super fed when the entire game was one sided because one side has poke and CC and the other doesn't have near as much or none at all.

Not to mention I own a fair number of champions and only like about 80 of them. But even if I like champion A B or C I might not be in the mood to play them.

And on the topic of stale game metas Nexus Siege, Poro King, and Ascension all have champions you see every other game almost without fail. Examples Ziggs Tristana in Nexus Siege, Jhin Lux in Poro King, and Rengar Teemo in Ascension.
