Imagine being a new player, grinding out for a long time to get one of those juicy 6300 champions and have them pick aatrox. That's grounds to quit the game right there. Even more so, they decide to get a cheaper champion next time. So they grind again for 3150 then decide the ranaged tank looks cool, so they buy urgot. For a new player, that'll take like 2 months to buy those champions. Imagine playing this game for 2 months and having a champ pool of aatrox and urgot.

This is my third season and I don't even own half the champions. Your friend must play a lot if he hasn't spent a dime. Personally, I don't want to spend an unhealthy amount of time grinding for IP. But that's just me. I'm trying to not queue up for multiple games in a row anymore, maybe get another hobby besides playing games.

When I was a new player, I actually spent 395 out of the given 400 RP to buy Urgot. He was on sale, and I thought, oh what the hell, it's just game-currency. To this day, I still have 5 RP in my account.

It's not that I chose to not refund... New players usually make questionable decisions. I bought Anivia, but I wanted to play Brand so I refunded Anivia. Then I bought her again when I had the IP. But one day I saw another champion I wanted. Guess what happened after that.

Aatrox isn't that bad though thanks to his rework. He was weak on release EDIT of the rework but now he's fine.

You clearly never played Aatrox on release. He was pretty damn powerful and got nerfed. The rework on his passive makes Aatrox's early game pretty pitiful, and ruins the snowballing that champs like he rely on to be worthy teamfighting forces late game.

He's just... very easily shut down from current meta picks. He is very reliant on Aauto Attacking, and if they can CC him before he pops off in a teamfight, then he kinda... dies pitifully..

Because no low elo carry is gonna buy item 3033 and every autofilled support wants to item 3089 and so he doesn't really get shut down unless the Aatrox is either braindead or against a direct counter.

Two instead of one because every 3rd champ they reduce the price of 1 champion with 6300 cost (which they do on every champ release) and also 1 champ of 4800/3150/1350 cost (i think its random but not sure).

I remember around S2-3 the policy was every 3rd champion they'd reduce 1 6300 champion and they'd pick and choose if they wanted to reduce others. This method is way more consistent, but 6300 is the most inflated price tier. I know having expensive characters is important for League but I think the concern is just how many expensive characters there are and we know there's regularly going to be a new character to buy.

Maybe a solution would be a wave of 3-5 bump downs to regulate it? shrug Its not a significant issue after the addition of champion shards, but 140+ is going to be daunting as hell for an entirely new player.

I haven't spent 6300 for a champion in forever. I just buy the champion shard for 1700 each and reroll 3. Boom, 6300 for 5100. Buy 5 get one free.

I've been playing since season 3 and I STILL do not have all the champions. Add on the crazy IP costs of runes and it just takes way too much time to unlock everything (although I guess....I'm getting some kinda refund for runes? It better be amazing considering I could have every champion at this point if not for runes.).

The vast majority of their revenue comes from skins, there's no reason all champions shouldn't be free. It's probably a psychological gamble that limited champs leads to more "maining" which leads to more skin sales. Either that or they think their player base is too dumb to have all champs available (very likely).

Well, everytime a new champ comes out they reduce the price of a 6300 one to 4800, so the number of 6300 champions actually remains constant. And every number of releases they also reduce lower price champions to the lower bracket. For example, with Kayn they just reduced Kha'Zix's price to 4800 and Mordekaiser's from 3150 to 1350.
