This should NOT be a thing. I just finished this game playing mid Orianna and I spent 1600 gold, the amount for a Needlessly Large Rod, for wards. 16 Stealth wards and 4 Vision wards as a MID LANER. Everyone else barely bought any/relied on their not upgraded trinkets.
Sadly, even with my vision, we lost. It's just sad how much I put into vision and my team STILL couldn't do anything or even get as many wards down as me.
If you're spending that much on wards instead of spending 250 on an upgraded trinket...
At least most of your team bought at least one pink, most of my games I'm the only one who gets even one of those, regardless of what role I am.
Also, wards placed looks like 2 of them were warding almost as much as you, just with the (upgraded?) trinket instead of buying them.
If you know you're going to buy that many, I think you know what items you should've bought instead.
its about efficient use of wards. try to just reach lvl 9 fast to upgrade trinket. i find typing > wards. communicate well, let them know keep eye out of mia etc.
I buy sweepers so I can have my jungler safely gank, but I guess I can't rely on my team anymore so ward trinket it is.

bjergsen was playing orianna and he was shopping in the in the "all items" section and misclicked a sightstone for needlessly large rod (they're both 1600 cost) he rolled with it the rest of the game and said sightstone OP.
