Riot Ghostcrawler on HUD

(Copied from Riot ask.fm) Link Because let's be honest, why answer on the official boards...

'If it is challenging to please an entire player base with the new HUD, whose idea was it to keep it from being fully customisable? This is not only appreciated by the players, but heavily requested from the beginning (as a feedback).

My experience in game design is that players always ask for the most customization possible. All things being equal, the assumption is nearly always that 100% customizable is always better than no customization. There are a number of reasons why we don't believe that to be the case: competitive integrity, the potential to cause glitches or get things in an unplayable state, the resource needs it takes to support and develop all of those options, and so on, but most importantly: it is weasely game design to say "We developers really don't know what a good experience is, so we're just going to give you a big tool set and hope you can find something fun."

The trick is to offer those options or customizations that are important. An example I use frequently is inverting the Y axis for camera controls on a mouse or controller. It is an expected option these days, and you're not going to win the battle with players by trying to claim that one design is better than another.

If you follow the guideline of offering the most important options, and we might very well add others to the HUD over time, then you end up with an options page or two rather than 40 pages of options to scroll through that many players won't be able to decipher. We think a smaller number of important options is more important than a virtually limitless number of options.'

Sorry, but i read this all as, BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT.

There are PLENTY of games out there that already offer FULLY CUSTOMIZABLE INTERFACES. Take World of Warcraft for example. DId the developers offer it? Nope. It was made by PLAYERS who knew who to properly develop mods for games.

What you they did was this was take all the info we actually relied on, Ally health/mana bars, personal champ stats and THE SUMMONER SPELL TIMERS, threw them in there and made them difficult to even see.

Can we get used to this.... yeah, but it is a hassle and takes away from the actual gameplay. Something i have always believed in, You can have the GREATEST GRAPHICS IN THE WORLD, but if the gameplay is garbage, i won't touch it because that is what matters most to me.

I was SOOOO excited with this HUD update at first, but when i actually got the chance to experience it, it was like receiving the wrong order at a restaurant because the waitress didn't listen to what i actually ordered.

dragging elements around and adjusting the size don´t sound like a virtually limitless number of options, nor would they require 40pages of options...can´t be too hard to do that.

It's a sad day when you wanna smack Ghostcrawler upside the head.... Does he even know how retard that whole we know best crap sounds? Designers do not know best this is why the have multiple medias for feedback from players to design shit. You can design the unsinkable ship... but if you don't calculate icebergs ..... shit could get a little hairy. That's why we have oceans saying yo ship maker sometime i'm cold as shit and ice forms on the surface. Ok maybe a little drastic of a comparison but the fail in this hud is Titanic proportions. Like designers be like.... my hud on fleek bitches, fuck you're practicalities.
