Is climbing worth it??

I am bad at this game, and I recognize that I'm bad at this game. Now, with that statement out of the way, I spent all season last season getting up to gold. Ended Season 6 in Gold V with 0 LP. Just barely crossing that threshold, and getting my victorious Maokai skin and gold boarder. I was beyond excited to have finally gotten there. Then the new season hit, and Flex queue wasn't really doing it for me (I got placed in Silver 5, and haven't been able to climb like....at all there.) Then Solo/Duo came out and I've been climbing rather quickly from that Gold V 0 LP to just not being in my Gold III Promo's. My question to you guys is, "Is climbing the ladder worthwhile during the preseason, or is my rank just going to get smashed right away when Season 7 starts?"
