legitimacy of solo q ranked system.

i just finished a game where i felt it was 100% unwinnable no matter what i did, i even had a spectator and when i asked "how do i win this" he said "you dont". so im pissed and im making this post... i feel like some of my gold friends have better game sense than some diamond players i have coached. these 1 tricks being able to coast thru their games until they get banned out. 1 tricks that abuse a cheesey method of play that get them to snowball advantages to win games. why the fuck would league be like this? i thought this game was respectable... you should be able to consistantly pull game wins by having better game knowledge no matter which champ you play. this is a strategy game im told, but it feels like street fighter.

deaths are too punishing from the amount of experience lost. depending on the champion, a level is worth 300-500 gold from the different stats you get from the level, increasingly so with scaling runes/masteries. soooo when you die you not only give your opponent 300-450 gold (assist) but you also give up your exp which snowballs incredibly fast. so lets say you die and theres a massive wave that you miss. yes its your fault for dying when such a large wave was encroaching BUT when you look at how much you actually lose, i think its an unfair amount. you can sometimes miss out on a whole levels worth of minions in just 1 death. so thats a swing of 600 to 950 gold... plus the minion gold you missed. i dont think the answer of elo ranking was to add a 15 minute surrender mechanic but to instead fix the game by adding scaling so games arent snowballed out of control within the first 5 minutes because my mid laner doesnt understand this algorithm .

also, i would like to add; unranked players shouldnt be allowed into gold games if they havent even finished their 10 games. if i was platinum last season and go 7 wins 3 losses in my promos and get placed into silver, why in the hell would anyone be in my gold games if theyre not ranked yet?

let everyone start at 1000 points regardless of last seasons score and let each win net 15 points and a bonus 5 points if they played well in the game(S- or better). ALSO i think HONOR should be incorporated into ranked score. if you are frequently being honored, you should be getting some sort of score bonus, because youre not a fucking detriment to your team. its solo q so the honor points should be viable, your duo shouldnt count, and THATS the cost of having a duo.

i feel like the best players are getting yuuuuge tax breaks, while the rest of us are struggling on welfare.

some games are auto loses and some are auto wins, just the nature of being pitted against 5 randoms with 4 randoms all with different lvls of stability and consistency.

It's an older post, but I still wanted to say: you are 100% correct with the statement that "LOL is more like Street Fighter" - THIS is where the misconception lies so often: this is NOT a strategy game! Game knowledge / strategic understanding is not important (it makes maybe 5% of the total skill of a player, granted).

What matter is that you can win fights (that includes fights in lane during laning phase as well as later at any point in time in the game) by knowing exactly when you kill somebody one on one, when to engage into a teamfight, when to stand back etc., and then 100% correctly execute the mechanics around that - that is IT. There is nothing more to it (not saying it's easy, don't get me wrong).

That is what "skill" in LOL comes down to. That is also why you see Challenger players on Twitch etc. and their games look EXACTLY like a game in gold or elsewhere... the only exception is that they are MECHANICALLY better (by a huge margin, of course). Which also explains why one-trick players are very often successful until a point where they meet players who are mechanically great with MANY champions and can consistently counter their one-trick picks (take Scarra... he plays exceptionally well mechanically with MANY champions).

And, unfortunately, that is ALSO the reason why LOL is so meta-dependent, i.e. in LOL you have to pick meta champions if you want to succeed - since the nuances of mechanical plays are so important (again, strategy doesn't matter at all after a certain point), a 0.5% advantage of a certain champion DOES make the difference between winning and losing. Again, that is IT.

Take the most recent Worlds... even on that level of play, alterations of strategies don't happen at all... that is not because they cannot ever work (see GBM), that is because the players have to focus ALL their practice time on mechanics, just like Street Fighter players (to stick with your example). They cannot practice alternative strategies, they would risk falling behind... better play 3 champions max per role, and make sure you always stand at the exact right spot exactly 1 unit away from certain death.

And of course, people who are good at LOL (along the lines described above) won't admit the above... because the players who ARE mechanically excellent and do excel at LOL want others to believe that it requires more than "just mechanics", which for some reason, they don't seem to value as much... they want to appear strategically competent, smart, etc. - it's an ego problem. They don't want to think they are "good at Street Fighter", they want to think they are good at something that in their heads is "better" than Street Fighter. Although being a "good" Street Fighter player is as much work as it is to be a good LOL player...

Obviously, to round this out: play Dota 2 if you are looking for something more strategic... it's still not a strategy game, especially not in solo queue, but it's more strategic than LOL... not saying better, just saying more strategic and less dependent on those tiny nuances at all times.

WHAT OTHER WAY IS THERE TO SHOWCASE SKILL IN LEAGUE???????? NORMALS?????? KDA?????? No you're a dumb low gold player who whines about team mates because you're too bad to carry them and the fact that you coach diamonds when you peaked at platinum 5 is insane, you are truly stupid. One tricks are very skilled, they understand how to play their champion at their level, being good at 20+ champions is great, but you wont MASTER one, onetricking is a genuine strategy that takes skill, and you're gold 5 with 300+ games from silver 1, a negative winrate, why on earth do you think you can talk about skill?? You merely have the basics down, don't even mention skill, get some before you comment. AND THAT IGNORANT COMMENT ABOUT UNRANKED PLAYERS IN GOLD, if you dont want to deal with unranked players, then simply get platinum, there will be no unranked people there, you're acually dumb, theres no way to matchmake unranked players. Point being Soloqueue is the only way to show skill in league, you only disagree because you're bad. Challenger players make LCS for a good reason. If rank didn't matter, then riot could place a silver player in LCS right? Obviously that silver player would be a hindrance, just like you making this stupid post.
